A teapot designed to brew café au lait directly in milk has gone on pre-sale on the support-purchase service Makuake. The Café au Lait Barista Kyusu (カフェオレ専用バリスタ急須) is from the coffee equipment brand BREWCRAFT (ブリュークラフト), and pre-sales began at 10:00 AM on September 30, 2026.
The product is the third in the Barista Kyusu series. The previous model, the Iced Coffee Barista Kyusu (アイスコーヒー専用バリスタ急須), drew about 4 million views on X (Note 1) and ranked first among all Makuake teapot projects to date (Note 2).
Patent-Pending Milk-Brewing Teapot
The kyusu features a patent-pending two-stage filter that lets coffee be brewed in milk. It was developed under a barista's supervision together with Tokoname ware (常滑焼) craftspeople, and the answer these professionals reached in pursuit of a better café au lait was to brew directly in milk. The coffee takes 2 minutes to brew, and a café au lait takes just 3 minutes in total.
Thanks to an original milk-only filter, both the deep richness of the coffee and the sweetness of the milk come through. Because the coffee's flavor is drawn out even in milk, an authentic café au lait can be made at home in just 3 minutes.

Brewed in Milk, So It Doesn't Get Watered Down
First, coffee is brewed with hot water for 2 minutes. Warmed milk is then poured in, the lid is put on, and the kyusu is left for another minute. The coffee is extracted in the milk, finishing as a smooth, sweet café au lait.
This reproduces the "milk brew method" popular at cafés using just a single teapot at home.

Patent-Pending Two-Stage Filter
The first stage is a stainless steel filter made only for milk, and the second stage is a double layer of fine mesh at the spout. Together they minimize fine grounds getting into the cup without letting the milk's flavor escape. The result is a café au lait that is rich, yet smooth on the palate.

Made by Tokoname Ware Craftspeople, Supervised by a Barista
The kyusu was developed jointly with the kiln 竹春 in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, and craftspeople finish each piece by hand. It was supervised by a barista. It holds 600 ml yet weighs only 326 g.
