Ohayo Dairy Products Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture; President: Yoko Yamazaki) is hosting a limited-time pop-up event for its premium ice cream brand "BRULEE," marking the brand's first appearance in a department store setting. Titled "Savor BRULEE with All Five Senses," the event runs for seven days from Wednesday, July 8 to Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Tree Terrace on the basement first floor of Hankyu Umeda Main Store.

The event features an exclusive eat-in menu supervised by internationally renowned pastry chef Junji Tokunaga — owner-chef of the popular Tokyo patisserie "équilibre" in Meguro — along with the new flavor "BRULEE PISTACHIO," developed specifically for this event and available online from the same date.

Seven Years of Development, Over 1,000 Prototypes: The Craftsmanship Behind BRULEE

BRULEE is a milk ice cream made with carefully selected domestic dairy ingredients. Using Ohayo Dairy's patented proprietary production method, the surface of the ice cream is carefully torched to recreate the characteristic crispy texture and bittersweet caramelized finish of a classic brûlée. The caramelization uses an original blend of multiple sugars, refined to achieve the perfect golden ratio.

Breaking through the caramelized shell reveals a fragrant, crispy layer giving way to a rich milk ice cream made with fresh milk. After approximately seven years in development, the product launched in 2017 and won the Grand Prix at the 10th Frozen Awards "Frozen Food & Ice Cream General Election 2022." It has since gained popularity among foreign visitors to Japan and is a trending topic on social media across Asian markets including Taiwan, South Korea, and Hong Kong.

To celebrate BRULEE's first department store event, the pop-up will feature exclusive limited-edition items alongside the popular standard lineup.

Featuring marron as the star ingredient, which is also the signature of équilibre, the dish layers équilibre's special marron cream made from French marron paste over BRULEE MILK. Hidden within the marron cream are gently sweet marrons glacés and a light fresh cream. The dessert delivers an aromatic caramelized crust, a rich milk ice cream, and the fragrant depth of chestnut — a marriage of flavors available only here.

Developed specifically for this event, BRULEE PISTACHIO is exclusively available in-store at Hankyu Umeda Main Store. It blends carefully selected varieties of pistachio without artificial flavors or colorings, drawing out the natural floral aroma and rich depth of roasted pistachios. Breaking the golden-brown caramelized shell releases the fragrant aroma of pistachio, followed by a creamy, lingering flavor. This new flavor offers a special experience where BRULEE's characteristic roasted notes intertwine with the full aftertaste of pistachio.

The product will also go on sale simultaneously from the event's opening day, July 8 (Wednesday), at the Ohayo Dairy official online store and the Reuteri official online store (in-store sales will be limited to Hankyu Umeda Main Store only).

équilibre opened its doors in 2022 near Fudo-mae Station in Tokyo. Chef Junji Tokunaga previously served as Chef Pâtissier and Executive Pastry Chef at restaurants including "La Baie" at The Ritz-Carlton Osaka, The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo, and InterContinental Tokyo Bay, earning numerous international awards along the way. He has also appeared in television documentaries and supervised the sweets for acclaimed TV dramas including 「グランメゾン東京」 (Grand Maison Tokyo), cementing his reputation as a world-class pastry chef.
