Capsule stickers — collectible, three-dimensional stickers with decorative elements sealed inside a clear dome — have grown in popularity among sticker hobbyists in Japan. While purchasing them has been easy enough, making them at home has been a different story, as the necessary materials simply weren't commercially available. A new product called Caprina is set to fill that gap.

The Idea: Making What You've Always Wanted to DIY
The concept for Caprina came from the appeal of capsule stickers themselves — and the question of why there wasn't a way to make them yourself. Crafting supply company MY mama, which has long handled a wide range of decorative parts, developed Caprina to give anyone the option to choose their own parts, combine them freely, and create original designs.
About 6mm Thick, with a Dome Shape
Caprina's defining feature is its dome-shaped structure, which stands approximately 6mm tall. The depth is enough to fit decorative parts and puffy stickers inside, recreating the rounded appearance of commercially produced capsule stickers. At the same time, the profile is kept slim enough that stickers won't add too much bulk to a sticker book.

The material is blister plastic — the same lightweight, durable, and crush-resistant material used in toy and product packaging. It holds up well even when handled repeatedly during the crafting process.
Assembly Designed to Be Manageable
Since Caprina is a DIY material rather than a finished item, making the assembly process approachable was a key part of development. Extensive prototyping went into refining the construction so that anyone can put it together without trouble. Where visible seam allowances are unavoidable at the edges, rhinestone decorations can be used to cover them naturally, keeping the finished sticker looking neat.

A Kit That Aims for a Guaranteed Cute Result
The kit version of Caprina was designed with a clear goal: that anyone who uses it will end up with a finished sticker they find cute. The decorative parts included are sized to fit inside the dome precisely, and designs were selected with younger users in mind. Supplementary filling materials are color-blended to complement the main parts. Background stickers and step-by-step instructions are also included, so first-timers can work through the process without getting stuck.

Safe for Children, Fun for All Ages
Caprina requires no resin, so children can participate safely. Choosing parts, planning a design, and assembling the pieces is a hands-on creative activity — one that can introduce younger crafters to the joy of making something themselves.
