Champion, the authentic American athletic wear brand, is releasing its first collaboration items with WACKO MARIA in limited quantities starting Saturday, October 31, 2026. They will be sold at the Champion official online store, Champion Harajuku and Champion Brand House Shinsaibashi Osaka.
Founded in 2005, WACKO MARIA is a brand that always keeps music at its foundation. Drawing on themes such as everyday experiences and the music, films and art that have influenced the brand, it proposes a refined, romantic and sensual style.
This collaboration blends WACKO MARIA's worldview into the sweatshirt, a staple Champion has refined over many years. Using REVERSE WEAVE®, Champion's signature construction, every style incorporates WACKO MARIA's original garment patterns, resulting in a collection that reflects the identity of both brands. The lineup consists of a crewneck sweatshirt, two pullover hoodies, a full-zip hoodie and sweatpants. The crewneck sweatshirt features a graphic by tattoo artist TIM LEHI, a longtime friend of WACKO MARIA. Graphics combining the logos and slogans of Champion and WACKO MARIA are embroidered on each item. By combining Champion's authentic sweatwear with WACKO MARIA's own silhouettes and graphics, the collection gives familiar items a fresh look.
About REVERSE WEAVE®
REVERSE WEAVE® has been loved over the years as an enduring staple ever since its birth as athletic wear in Rochester, New York.
In 1934, Sam Friedland, a salesman introducing athletic wear to universities across the United States, received complaints that sweatshirts shrink when washed. That became the starting point for REVERSE WEAVE®.
The defining feature of REVERSE WEAVE®, Champion's signature construction, is that the knit fabric, which is normally used vertically, is used horizontally to prevent lengthwise shrinkage. Vertical gussets on both sides, known as the "EXPANSION GUSSET," accommodate shrinkage across the width of the body, keeping the garment comfortable and easy to move in. Since obtaining patents for the construction in 1938 and 1954, it earned the trust of American military personnel and athletes, and its reputation spread quickly among students across the country. It evolved into a campus casual staple and continues to attract many fans today.
Collaboration Items
The items use 11.5 oz TERRY FLEECE (90% cotton, 10% polyester). They adopt REVERSE WEAVE®, Champion's signature construction, in which fabric normally used vertically is used horizontally to reduce lengthwise shrinkage. EXPANSION GUSSETs on both sides also take crosswise shrinkage into account and improve ease of movement. The name tag is the 1970s-model "single-color blue tag" (青単タグ), and the items incorporate WACKO MARIA's original garment patterns.
