To celebrate the completion of the latest Cinema Kabuki work The Love Suicides at Sonezaki, a special premiere screening will be held at MOVIX Kyoto.
This is a special screening event with a stage greeting by Nakamura Ganjiro and Nakamura Ichitaro.
Ganjiro, who performed as Tokubei alongside his father Sakata Fujujuro's Ohatsu and also provided editorial cooperation for the Cinema Kabuki version, will join Ichitaro, who plays both Ohatsu and Tokubei roles in the Minamiza performance "The Love Suicides at Sonezaki Story." Together, they will discuss the appeal of "The Love Suicides at Sonezaki," the revival of this work by the second Nakamura Ganjiro, and the artistic inheritance spanning four generations beginning with the Living National Treasure, the fourth Sakata Fujujuro.
Ahead of the nationwide release, experience this representative work of Kamigata Kabuki in Kyoto this spring!

Synopsis
Ohatsu, a courtesan, and Tokubei, a merchant, are deeply in love.
However, Tokubei is betrayed by a friend who swindles the money he was supposed to return to his uncle. With his honor wounded and in despair, Tokubei is still believed by Ohatsu.
When Ohatsu hides under the porch where Tokubei is concealed and asks, "Tell me your resolve to die...", questioning his determination to prove his innocence by risking his life, Tokubei signals his "decision to die." To be together in the afterlife, the two head to Sonezaki Forest under cover of night.
