FamilyMart has become the first convenience store chain — and the first retailer in the distribution industry — to join the Anime Tourism Association, an organization established in 2016 that promotes anime pilgrimage tourism across Japan and to visitors from around the world.
Through this membership, FamilyMart plans to partner with the association's "88 Japanese Anime Spots" — an annually selected list of must-visit anime-related locations based on worldwide fan voting — and roll out themed wrapping stores across Japan. Stores connected to anime titles that feature FamilyMart locations will be decorated to reflect the world of those specific series, transforming them into bases for anime pilgrimage travelers.

About the "88 Japanese Anime Spots"

The "88 Japanese Anime Spots" is an annually updated list of anime pilgrimage destinations selected by the Anime Tourism Association, based on votes from anime fans worldwide, followed by consultations with rights holders and local governments. Some designated sites feature official "Anime Spot 88 Certified Plates" and special stamp locations, helping to form wide-area tourism routes that connect fans with regional communities across Japan.
FamilyMart aims to leverage this partnership not only to enhance the anime pilgrimage experience for fans, but also to drive regional revitalization in communities throughout the country. Following the Durarara!! launch, the chain plans to actively expand its lineup of wrapping stores throughout fiscal year 2026.
