Fukagawa Hachiman Matsuri: A Splashing Summer Festival Experience in Tokyo

Hello, I'm Sekino from the Holiday Travel editorial team. Today I want to share with you a festival experience from last weekend that was absolutely incredible! 🎪

About Fukagawa Hachiman Matsuri

The festival I attended was the "Fukagawa Hachiman Matsuri" held around Monzen-nakacho Station in Tokyo. This festival is famous as one of the Edo (Tokyo) Three Great Festivals and is affectionately known as the "Water-Splashing Festival" 💦

Festival Mikoshi

The festival is held annually in mid-August and spans several days, but the main attraction for tourists is the final day when the main street is closed to traffic for the mikoshi parade. The sight of countless portable shrines filling the streets is absolutely spectacular! 🏮

The main highlight of Fukagawa Hachiman Matsuri is definitely the water splashing! It's fun just to watch, but you can also join in by splashing water from the roadside onto the mikoshi. However, be careful - if you get close to the mikoshi, you'll definitely get soaked yourself! 💦

Delicious Street Food Galore

Speaking of Japanese festivals, you can't miss the street food! 🍧🍦

During the Fukagawa Hachiman Matsuri, numerous food stalls set up from evening into the night. From yakisoba and yakitori to shaved ice, all the classic festival foods are lined up in rows.

While it does get crowded, it's not so packed that you can't move around, so you can leisurely stroll and enjoy eating your way through the festival 🥳

Summary

Fukagawa Hachiman Matsuri is the perfect summer tradition where you can experience the excitement of water splashing and enjoy delicious street food. If you're in Tokyo during the festival, don't miss it! ✨
