Fukujuen, a Kyoto-based tea company with more than 230 years of history, is hosting a Japanese tea seasonal event called "Shincha no Furumai" (New Tea Tasting) at Kyoto Porta for six days only, from May 26 to May 31, 2026. Themed around "Kyoto tea," the event offers shoppers and Kyoto Station visitors a hands-on way to discover the world of Japanese tea and the city's deep-rooted tea culture.
Event Overview
- Dates: Tuesday, May 26 to Sunday, May 31, 2026
- Hours: 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM
- Venue: Kyoto Porta (B1F), West Area, Porta Plaza
Event Activities
(1) Free New Tea Tasting
Shincha — green tea made from the very first buds picked in spring — is available for guests to sample free of charge. Both warm and cold versions are offered side by side, giving visitors a chance to compare flavors that can only be savored at this time of year.
(2) Kyusu Teapot Brewing Experience (First-come, first-served daily; numbered ticket required)
A practical workshop on brewing Japanese tea using a traditional kyusu teapot. Participants learn how temperature and steeping time change the flavor and aroma of the tea, with tips they can apply at home.
(3) Japanese Tea Gallery
A poster panel display that walks visitors through the tea-making process — from choosing leaves to storage methods — highlighting the care and craftsmanship behind Fukujuen's teas.
(4) Product Sales
Fukujuen products are available for purchase at the event venue, covering the full spectrum of tea enjoyment: taste, color, aroma, culinary uses, culture, and presentation.
