About Spy × Family
In a world of intense intelligence warfare, master spy "Twilight" is given a mission: to prevent war with a neighboring country by forming a fake family, attending a prestigious school's social gathering, and making contact with the target. Posing as ordinary citizen Loid Forger, Twilight builds a family — only to discover that his daughter Anya is a telepath who can read others' minds, and his wife Yor is an assassin. Serialized in Shonen Jump+ since March 2019, the original manga by Tatsuya Endo has won numerous manga awards. With 17 volumes currently available, the comic series has surpassed 42 million copies in cumulative circulation (as of April 2026).
The TV anime adaptation, whose Season 1 began airing in April 2022, was produced through an unusual joint effort between WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks in response to the manga's popularity. Alongside a top-tier production staff led by director Kazuhiro Furuhashi, and a popular cast including Takuya Eguchi, Atsumi Tanezaki, Saori Hayami, and Kenichiro Matsuda, the show drew attention for its lineup of high-profile theme song artists — Official HIGE DANdism's "Mixed Nuts" and Gen Hoshino's "Kigeki" for the first cour, and BUMP OF CHICKEN's "SOUVENIR" and yama's "Shikisai" for the second — helping make it one of the biggest anime hits of 2022.
Season 2 then aired from October 2023, depicting the fan-favorite "Luxury Cruise Ship Arc" from the original manga on an even grander scale, with Ado's opening theme "Kurakura" and Vaundy's ending theme "Todome no Ichigeki feat. Cory Wong" becoming major talking points. On December 22 of the same year, the franchise's first film — Spy × Family CODE: White, based on the original manga by Tatsuya Endo, who also served as supervisor and provided the original character designs — was released in theaters. Kazuhiro Furuhashi, who directed Season 1, joined as animation advisor, while Takashi Katagiri, who served as assistant director on Season 1, took the director's chair. The screenplay was an entirely original story written by Ichiro Okouchi, brought to life by a stellar production team. Following the success of "Mixed Nuts," the announcement that the film's theme songs would be Official HIGE DANdism's "SOULSOUP" and Gen Hoshino's ending theme "Hikari no Ato" sparked major excitement over the reunited Season 1 duo. As the franchise's first theatrical film, it became a massive hit, grossing 6.32 billion yen and drawing over 4.64 million moviegoers.
Having become a national phenomenon across Season 1, Season 2, and the film, the series went on to air Season 3 from October 2025. Its opening theme, "Akari wo Mamoru" by Spitz, marked the band's first song written specifically for a TV anime, while the ending theme, "Actor" by Lilas Ikuta — hugely popular among young audiences — also became a major talking point. Depicted on an unprecedented scale, the season covered the "Loid's Past Arc," which revealed why Loid became a spy; the "Bus Hijacking Arc," introducing Damian's mother Melinda, a key figure in the story; and the "Wheeler Arc," which brought the greatest threat yet. Attention to the series has only grown since the season finished airing.
