A collaboration between Godiva Japan and Iwakuni City in Yamaguchi Prefecture has produced a distinctive limited-edition product: the "Iwakuni Lotus Root Chips Chocolate." It first went on sale on March 4, 2026, at Godiva shops in Yamaguchi and Hiroshima prefectures, before expanding to select Godiva shops nationwide, the Godiva Online Shop, and select Godiva outlet stores from March 12, 2026.
The product is part of a broader town revitalization initiative involving Iwakuni City, which has been working with various partners on regional development projects, including the launch of the local souvenir brand "Tsumande Chonmage" and a comprehensive partnership agreement with TV Tokyo Direct aimed at promoting regional vitalization.
About the Product
The treat pairs sliced Iwakuni lotus root that has been fried into chips with a coating of Belgian dark chocolate. The chips deliver a satisfying crunch, and each bite brings out the natural umami of the lotus root. The combination of rich chocolate and salted lotus root chips creates an unexpected yet complementary flavor pairing.
The chocolate used is 70% Belgian origin (within the chocolate coating).

The lotus root used in this product has been cultivated in Iwakuni for over 100 years, benefiting from the region's rich natural environment. It is known for its distinctive stickiness when pulled apart, a fluffy texture when simmered, and a chewy, mochi-like consistency when grated.
