Haimurubushi Resort on Okinawa's Kohama Island Launches 1st Anniversary Stay Plan

Haimurubushi, the island beach resort on Kohama Island in Okinawa's Yaeyama archipelago, is marking one year since its July 15, 2025 renewal opening with a special "1st Anniversary Renewal Plan" and a series of commemorative events for guests staying in July 2026.

Located within the Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park — Japan's first certified dark sky sanctuary — the resort sits on Kohama Island in Taketomi Town, surrounded by abundant natural scenery. The name "Haimurubushi" comes from a Yaeyama dialect word meaning "Southern Cross," a constellation that can be observed from the resort grounds from winter through early summer.

1st Anniversary Renewal Plan

The "1st Anniversary Renewal Plan" is available exclusively through the resort's official website, limited to 15 rooms per day, with a minimum 2-night stay. Guests receive the following benefits:

  • ¥15,000 dinner credit per room per stay (usable at The Steak & Grill or The Buffet)
  • Original anniversary jute bag (1 per room per stay)
  • 10% discount off standard suite room rates

Resort Facilities

Haimurubushi first opened in 1979 as one of Japan's pioneering full-scale ocean resorts. Following its July 2025 renewal, it now offers 148 guest rooms across several categories, with dining at The Buffet, The Steak & Grill, The Lounge & Bar, The Beach Café, and The Beach Bar. The property features three pools — the Main Pool (approximately 330 m²), the Quiet Pool (approximately 155 m²), and the Garden Pool (approximately 180 m²) — along with a spa, sauna, and sunset cruises.

Environmental Initiatives

Haimurubushi promotes several environmental conservation activities on Kohama Island. Multi-night guests are encouraged to opt for an eco-stay where daily room cleaning and linen changes are skipped. Plastic bottle water service has been discontinued and replaced by water dispensers throughout the premises, with personal bottles available to borrow.

In partnership with a local organization on Ishigaki Island focused on marine plastic waste reduction, plastics collected through beach clean-ups at the resort's beach are upcycled into seasonal interior decorations.

The resort also participates in community beach clean-ups and other environmental activities on the island.
