Hoshino Resorts launched its "Typhoon Anshin Tokuyaku 2026" (Typhoon Peace-of-Mind Special Provision 2026) at six of its Okinawa properties on May 31, 2026. The program offers cancellation fee waivers, typhoon-period discounts, and special extended stay rates for guests whose travel is disrupted by typhoons. It covers check-ins from May 31 through check-outs by December 1, 2026.
Okinawa sees an average of 7.7 typhoon approaches or landings per year, with most concentrated in the June–October summer travel season — a factor that leads some travelers to hesitate when booking. Hoshino Resorts has run a similar initiative since 2023, and in its fourth year, the program has been expanded to include ferry cancellations as a new qualifying event for accommodation fee waivers, in addition to the existing flight cancellation provision.
The program is expected to eventually expand beyond Okinawa to Kyushu, Chugoku, and Shikoku regions.
Three Key Benefits of the Program
Point 1: Cancellation Fee Waiver for Flight or Ferry Disruptions
If the airline waives its cancellation fee (no-charge) for a typhoon-affected flight — either inbound or outbound — or if the ferry you planned to use (inbound or outbound) is cancelled due to a typhoon, the hotel accommodation cancellation fee is also waived.
Point 2: 50% Room Rate Discount During Typhoon Approach
If the Japan Meteorological Agency's forecast at 3:00 PM on your stay date indicates that the hotel is expected to be within the typhoon's severe wind zone by 11:00 AM the following day — or by 12:00 PM for Hoshinoya Okinawa and Hoshinoya Taketomijima — the room rate is discounted by 50% from the standard rate.
For prepaid bookings, the difference between the standard rate minus 50% and the prepaid amount will be refunded. No refund applies if you already booked at a rate lower than 50% of the standard rate.
The standard rate is defined as the room rate of the following plans on the official website as of 3:00 PM on the applicable day:
- Hoshinoya / Iriomote Island Hotel: Room rate
- Risonare: Base rate (meals not included)
- OMO: Omotabi plan (meals not included)
- BEB: Standard plan (meals not included)
This discount cannot be combined with other discounts.
Point 3: Special Rates for Early Arrival or Extended Stay
If you need to arrive a night early or extend your stay due to typhoon-related flight or ferry disruptions, rooms are available at 50% off the standard rate. Availability cannot be guaranteed if the hotel is fully booked at the time.
All three provisions apply automatically to all eligible bookings — no prior application is required.
