Bonsai, a traditional part of Japanese culture, has been rising in popularity, and from Wednesday, October 21 to Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Kotokoto Stage 81 on the 8th floor of Hankyu Umeda Main Store (GREEN AGE) presents it in a style that blends into modern interiors and living spaces. The event, "Ruten: Layers of Time, the Beauty of Japan — Bonsai and Pottery" (流転 時を重ねる、日本の美(盆栽と陶芸)), is a collaboration between THE ETORA BONSAI, a bonsai brand that works on hotel space design, and Kikko-gama (吉光窯), a Tokyo-based pottery kiln that handcrafts its vessels. In addition to bonsai for sale, including Japanese white pine and shimpaku juniper with beautiful tree shapes and colorful autumn-leaf maple bonsai, the event offers an original bonsai-making experience in which visitors pick their own plant and pot and have it planted on the spot by a bonsai artist. It is a chance to enjoy a new bonsai style that brings the beauty of nature and quiet comfort into everyday life.
Event: Ruten: Layers of Time, the Beauty of Japan — Bonsai and Pottery
Period: October 21 (Wed) to October 27 (Tue), 2026
Location: Hankyu Umeda Main Store, 8th Floor, GREEN AGE, Kotokoto Stage 81
THE ETORA BONSAI: Bonsai for Modern Spaces
Based on a traditional sense of beauty, THE ETORA BONSAI creates works that make the most of curved trunks, the open space within the branches, and scenes shaped by passing years. The brand mainly works on space design for large hotels and similar venues, and has prepared bonsai that are easy to enjoy in daily life especially for this event.

THE ETORA BONSAI — Japanese White Pine (Goyomatsu) Bonsai — ¥165,000
The Japanese white pine has long been loved as an auspicious pine. The strong tilt and movement of its trunk evoke the flow of a natural breeze and lend a calm dignity to a space.

THE ETORA BONSAI — Shimpaku Juniper Bonsai — ¥308,000
This shimpaku juniper expresses the look of a tree that has endured harsh natural conditions. The contrast between the white deadwood sections (jin and shari) and the lush green foliage conveys the strength of life and adds a striking sculptural presence to a space.

Japanese-modern arrangements that let visitors feel the changing seasons are available, ranging from evergreen pine and hinoki cypress to momiji maple bonsai whose leaves change color as autumn deepens.
Kikko-gama: A Tokyo Kiln with Distinctive Sculptural Forms
Kikko-gama (吉光窯) is a Tokyo-based kiln that makes every piece entirely by hand. Bringing a contemporary sensibility to traditional ceramic techniques, it pursues vessels that combine the presence of an art object with everyday practicality.

Kikko-gama — Studs Bonsai Pots — ¥7,700 (left) / ¥9,900 (right)
A signature piece popular for its stud (rivet-like protrusion) design, each one carefully carved and decorated from clay. Its refined form brings out the strength of the plant.

Kikko-gama — Mushikui (Worm-Eaten) Bonsai Pot — ¥12,100
A bonsai pot with a characterful look, its surface weathered with a unique technique to express the passage of time and natural aging.

Kikko-gama — Rockglass — ¥8,800 each (right)
Rock glasses with a distinctive handmade texture and a substantial feel, also suited to everyday use as tableware.
Original Bonsai Making: Create a Bonsai of Your Own

At the venue, visitors can freely choose a plant they like (such as pine, hinoki cypress, or momiji maple) and a Kikko-gama pot they like. A bonsai artist then carefully plants each one on the spot and hands it over, making for a customized experience.
