Joint Pop-Up "Mori to, Ori" Brings Japanese Forest Scents and Textiles to Hankyu Umeda Main Store from October 7

A joint pop-up titled "Mori to, Ori" (森と、織り, literally "Forest and Weaving") is being held at Hankyu Umeda Main Store in Osaka for seven days, from Wednesday, October 7 to Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The venue is Promotion Space 81 on the 8th floor.

Three brands take part: the forest fragrance brand yaso (ヤソ) and the sakiori (rag weaving) brand BOLOCO (ボロコ), both from Nagano, and the fabric label PHAPHIC (ファフィック) from Kyoto. Through home fabrics, fragrances, and other items that appeal to all five senses, the event suggests a richer way of living.

The three brands reinterpret Japan's regional resources, culture, and traditions in their products.

Three Highlights of the Event

1. Scent Tasting Experience of Nagano's Forests

The venue has a "scent tasting space" where visitors can try fragrances extracted from Nagano's forests. Forest fragrance brand yaso presents the fresh scent of trees, as if you were surrounded by a forest, and it can be experienced casually in the store.

2. Weekend-Only Workshops on Fragrance and Hand Weaving

I. Distilling trees and making a forest perfume with materials from Nagano's forests

While watching a distillation demonstration using materials sent from Nagano's forests, participants make an original perfume (30 ml). You combine essential oils from trees, herbs, and more yourself to create a scent that is yours alone. The finished perfume can be taken home the same day.

II. A first weaving experience: making a hand-woven charm from one-of-a-kind threads

Participants pick their favorite materials from one-of-a-kind items such as the selvedge of Banshu-ori (播州織) fabric and cloth torn from kimono that had been sleeping in a storehouse in Nagano. Using a loom, they carefully weave the materials together into an original charm, one of a kind, to add to a favorite bag or interior item. The charm can be taken home the same day.

Buyers choose one sakiori diffuser from designs with different looks, and it is packed together with a mini size (10 ml) of yaso's signature fragrance "Jumoku" (樹木) to take home. Participating Brands

yaso (ヤソ, Nagano)

yaso is a forest fragrance brand based in Nagano Prefecture that brings the "scent of Japan's forests" into daily life. It makes the most of thinned wood that would otherwise be discarded and works with local foresters toward sustainable manufacturing.

BOLOCO (ボロコ, Nagano)

BOLOCO is a project based in Hara Village, Nagano Prefecture, that aims for the "upcycling of folk craft." Under the theme "OLD IS NEW," it shines a light on the traditional local handcraft "boro-bataori" (ぼろ機織り, rag weaving) of the Hara Village area. Using old cloth and kimono lying dormant in the region and leftover fabric from manufacturers, it explores, through collaborations, the making of things that create value that is, if anything, new for today. All products are handmade by weavers. Keeping its distance from a consumer society that mass-produces and discards, BOLOCO spreads the sustainability and possibilities of the time-consuming method of handwork.

PHAPHIC (ファフィック, Kyoto)

PHAPHIC is a fabric label that focuses on textile-producing regions, with the concept of "creating comfort from the weaving of production regions." Designs by graphic designers are expressed through locally rooted weaving, and proposed as cushions, slippers, and other items that fit modern life. At the pop-up, new Banshu-ori blankets and bags made exclusively for the event, among other items, will be sold.
