About The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
The Haruhi Suzumiya series is a science-fiction-flavored school story following the exploits of the unofficial school club "SOS Brigade," led by Haruhi Suzumiya. It is based on the light novel series written by Nagaru Tanigawa with illustrations by Noizi Ito, published by Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko.
The 2006 TV anime adaptation, known for its shuffled, non-chronological storytelling and the viral popularity of the ending theme "Hare Hare Yukai" dance, became a social phenomenon. A second season aired in 2009, adding new episodes and reorganizing the story in chronological order. In 2010, the film The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya was released, becoming an unusually large hit for a title originating from late-night TV anime and earning high critical acclaim.
Now in 2026, the TV anime celebrates its 20th anniversary, and the 涼宮ハルヒの御礼 project is underway in appreciation of fans who have supported the series over the years.
