Hatsune Miku V6 Voice Synthesis Software Released with Two Voice Banks

Crypton Future Media has released Hatsune Miku V6, a VOCALOID6-compatible voice synthesis software, on April 14, 2026. The title is available in two editions: a Starter Pack bundled with the "VOCALOID6 Editor," and a Voice Bank edition for those who already own the editor. Both editions include the software and sound sources needed for music production beyond the vocal part, making it possible to dive into full-scale music creation from day one.

Two Voice Banks: Sweet and Sultry

Hatsune Miku V6 ships with two voice banks — "Original" and "Soft" — supporting Japanese, English, and Chinese (Chinese to be added via a free update at a later date). The software runs on the VOCALOID:AI voice synthesis engine and produces natural breath phrasing and fluid multilingual singing from simple lyrics and melody input.

  • "Original": Sweet and direct — carrying on the signature Miku vocal quality
  • "Soft": Airy and dreamy — a breath-tinged tone that broadens expressive range

Machine learning has been applied to pitch transitions, volume dynamics, timing, and accents, giving the output a warmth and natural variability that closely resembles the human voice. Out of the box, the default settings deliver results that work in a wide range of contexts, but creators can also push every detail further — adjusting vocal tension with the "Expression parameter," sculpting scoops, vibrato, and timing by drawing pitch and volume curves directly on screen, and using the "TAKE function" to generate multiple nuanced takes from a single phrase, making layered harmonies straightforward to produce.

New Character Design by LAM

The Hatsune Miku V6 package artwork features a new illustration created by artist LAM. Unlike earlier VOCALOID versions of the character, V6 introduces features that proactively support the creator's workflow rather than simply responding to instructions — and LAM's design reflects that shift. Three-view reference sheets of the new design have been made publicly available for use in fan art and cosplay projects.

Wataru Sasaki, Hatsune Miku Development Producer at Crypton Future Media, shared the following comment on the release:

We kept you waiting from the announcement to the release of Hatsune Miku V6. It became a last-minute announcement, but in addition to the "Original" voice bank — the Hatsune Miku sound that has continued since 2007 — we are releasing the software with an added "Soft" voice bank featuring a gentler singing voice. Hatsune Miku is a singer with many different expressions, and I hope the Japanese and English voices of this VOCALOID6 Hatsune Miku will be embraced by everyone in a new way.

About VOCALOID

VOCALOID is a voice synthesis technology developed by Yamaha Corporation in 2003 that enables users to create vocal parts for songs by inputting lyrics and melody data. Today, songs made with voice synthesis software — including products not based on the VOCALOID engine — are commonly referred to as "Vocaloid songs," and "Vocaloid" itself is used as a genre name within the music scene. "VOCALOID" and "Vocaloid" are registered trademarks of Yamaha Corporation.
