Hibiya Kadan Launches "pokehana" — Fresh Flowers You Can Wear on Your Bag, Available Now at Flags Shinjuku Pop-Up

Frenet HIBIYA, a group company of Hibiya Kadan, has launched a new product called "pokehana" — a fresh flower accessory designed to be attached to bags, clothing, or smartphones much like a keychain or charm. The product made its debut at a pop-up shop held inside Flags (Shinjuku Flags) starting April 15, 2026.

Background

The idea behind pokehana stems from a desire to move flowers beyond simply decorating a room and into everyday life in a more casual, accessible way. A product planner at Frenet HIBIYA, who had long been exploring ways for people to wear fresh flowers, drew inspiration from dried-flower charms and began working on a way to achieve the same concept using live blooms.

This idea aligned with the "jara-katsu" trend, popular especially among Gen Z, where people express their personality by attaching multiple favorite charms "jara-jara" (dangling loosely) to their bags. The result is pokehana — a colorful floral fashion item that brings fresh flowers to everyday accessories.

Gerberas were chosen for the product due to their popularity across age groups, their flat shape that fits neatly into the package, their relatively long vase life, and their wide variety of colors.

pokehana color variety

  1. Fresh Gerbera Flowers: The bright, cheerful gerbera is the flower of choice. Carrying the flower language of "hope," it is suitable both as a personal pick-me-up and as a gift. Its flat shape fits the package well, it has a relatively long shelf life, and it comes in a wide range of colors.

  2. Transparent Zip Bag: Using proprietary technology, the bag keeps fresh flowers looking vibrant without any watering required. (Manufacturer patent pending.)

  3. Carabiner Strap: A carabiner strap is included so the pokehana can be easily clipped onto a bag, clothing, or smartphone. Mixing and matching flower colors with different strap colors is one of the playful aspects of the product.

  4. Message Card: A pocket on the side of the zip bag fits a message card. The launch version includes a THANK YOU card for conveying gratitude directly.

Who It's For

  • Fashion-forward Gen Z: For those who enjoy customizing their look and keeping up with trends, pokehana can be worn as part of a bag or outfit and shared on social media.
  • Busy adults seeking a touch of nature: The product requires no watering, making it a low-maintenance way to enjoy the calming effect of plants in daily life.
  • Casual gifting: At an accessible price and compact size, pokehana works as a thoughtful, low-pressure "thank you" gift for everyday moments.
