Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, a nature wonder resort in Hokkaido where guests can feel the land of Hokkaido, plans to open "Adventure Base" (アドベンチャーベース), a new hub for its ski area, on December 1, 2026. The facility is designed so that everyone can comfortably enjoy the wide slopes and powder snow of Tomamu Ski Resort.
Lesson reception, gear rental, lift ticket sales and a wax service are gathered in a three-story building. With easy access directly connected to the slopes, the base is built so that everyone, from first-time skiers to advanced skiers looking for a satisfying run, can head out onto the snowy mountain smoothly.
Why Adventure Base Was Built
Tomamu Ski Resort has fine powder snow produced by temperatures of minus 20°C or lower, and a wide ski area of 29 courses spread over two mountains, which can be enjoyed from beginner to advanced level.
According to PlanetSKI, total annual ski resort visits worldwide in the 2024-25 season reached about 399 million, a new record for the 21st century. In Japan, however, the number of people taking part in skiing and snowboarding has fallen to a quarter or less of its peak, according to estimates in the Leisure White Paper of the Japan Productivity Center.
At Tomamu, too, many guests from Japan and abroad use the ski resort. In guest surveys received by the resort from December 1, 2025 to January 20, 2026, comments included that the place to rent boots and gear is far from the reception, which is a burden to walk and makes the route hard to follow, and that waits are long when it is crowded, so it takes time to get out onto the slopes.
Adventure Base was created in response. By gathering functions in one place and designing a route directly connected to the slopes, it aims to reduce the physical and psychological burden before skiing begins and to serve as a base from which guests can head out onto Tomamu's snowy mountain more smoothly.
Adventure Base Overview

- Opening date: December 1, 2026 (planned)
- Structure: Three stories
- Total floor area: 1,382 m²
- Functions: Gear rental, lesson reception, lift ticket sales, wax service
- Floors:
- 1F: Connecting passage to Tomamu The Tower; ski racks

Three Features of Adventure Base
1. Functions Gathered by Floor, With Direct Access to the Slopes
Lift ticket purchase, gear rental, lesson reception and the other functions needed before skiing are gathered in one building, which reduces the burden of moving between separate places. Because each floor has its own functions, visitors can reach the service they are looking for without getting lost.
Once they are ready, guests can walk straight out onto the slopes. The high-speed lift "Tower Express" (タワーエキスプレス), which connects to many parts of the wide ski area, including courses for intermediate and advanced skiers, is also right in front of the building.
2. A Wax Service Matched to the Day's Snow Quality and Temperature

A wax service is introduced on the 3rd floor. It is a paid service. Staff suggest wax suited to Tomamu's unique climate, which can reach minus 20°C or lower, and to the snow temperature and snow quality of the day, supporting comfortable skiing in that day's conditions.
3. Multilingual Lessons and a Dedicated Area for a Reassuring Snow Debut

After getting their gear on the 2nd floor, guests can go straight into the Debut Park (デビューパーク), which includes an area exclusively for "Yukids" (雪ッズ) at the ski resort. A snow escalator is also available, so guests can get enough practice in both skiing time and distance.
The resort also offers "Yukids" (雪ッズ), a Hoshino Resorts-style ski lesson developed jointly with a professor at Nippon Sport Science University. From this winter, a translation tool is introduced for multilingual support, along with a system that uses videos of ski runs. The aim is to create an environment where children from Japan and abroad can improve with peace of mind, without worrying about a language barrier.

"Adventure Mountain" (アドベンチャーマウンテン), a Story-Based Family Slope

Adventure Mountain was launched in 2008 as a family slope billed as the world's only story-based one, designed to spark children's curiosity and spirit of challenge and to offer both fun and the joy of improving. In this skiing area, children become the heroes of a story and can experience the fun of skiing and the joy of getting better as they clear various missions.

Every day from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, "Happy Apres Time" (ハッピー・アプレタイム) offers limited drinks at special prices at all 8 shops. New this season is a 50 m "sled course" (そりコース) that runs through the illuminated streets, adding to the after-ski fun.
