Hotel Oriental Express Kagoshima Tenmonkan in Kagoshima City will hold a one-night-only event on Friday, November 13, 2026, pairing five distinctive sake from Fukuoka Prefecture with dishes made with Kagoshima ingredients. It is a sake pairing evening called 日本酒を楽しむ会.
Five Sake and Matching Dishes
Five sake of different types have been selected from Fukuoka Prefecture breweries, including nigori (cloudy) sake, junmai, junmai ginjo, and sparkling sake. For a fee of ¥4,000 (tax included), participants can compare all five and enjoy dishes matched to the character of each. The dishes use ingredients unique to Kagoshima, such as sweet potato, kanpachi (greater amberjack), and Kagoshima black pork, so guests can notice how the flavor changes depending on the sake it is paired with.
The event is built around the idea of letting guests experience Kyushu's food culture across prefectural borders by combining sake from Fukuoka breweries with Kagoshima ingredients. Through pairings that bring out the strengths of each, it proposes ways to enjoy Kyushu cuisine.
The Five Fukuoka Sake
- Biden Yamahai Junmai Nigori (美田 山廃純米 にごり酒)
A nigori sake with the richness unique to the yamahai brewing method, the umami of rice, and a refreshing acidity. - Tanaka Rokujugo Junmai (田中六五 純米)
Made with Yamada Nishiki rice grown in Itoshima, Fukuoka Prefecture. A food-friendly sake with soft rice umami and a crisp, clean taste. - Niwa no Uguisu Junmai Ginjo (庭のうぐいす 純米吟醸)
A light-tasting sake with a vibrant aroma and a pleasant balance of sweetness and acidity. - Sparkling Sake Awayura (スパークリング清酒 あわゆら)
A light sparkling sake with a refreshing acidity and gentle sweetness. - Wakanami Junmai Ginjo (若波 純米吟醸)
Soft on the palate, with rice umami and an elegant acidity that lead to a fresh, clear aftertaste.
