Overview
The Itabashi Art Museum is holding the collection exhibition "Light and Rich – Edo-Era Paintings" from Saturday, August 29 to Sunday, September 27, 2026.
The Edo period gave rise to a wide variety of painting techniques, from the light touch of the Edo Kano school, which used a restrained number of brushstrokes and made effective use of blank space, to Western-influenced painting, which incorporated Western perspective and shading techniques with rich, dense coloring. Using the contrasting keywords "light" and "rich," this exhibition introduces the richness and appeal of Edo-era painting.
