YOKAI Immersive Experience Exhibition TOKYO Opens March 27, 2026 at Tennōzu - Advance Tickets on Sale from January 30

YOKAI Immersive Experience Exhibition TOKYO Imagination of Japan, produced by Hitohata Inc. (Representative Director: Takeaki Higashiyama), will be held at Terada Warehouse G1 Building in Shinagawa, Tokyo from Friday, March 27 to Sunday, June 28, 2026. Advance tickets will go on sale from Friday, January 30. (Organized by: YOKAI Immersive Experience Exhibition TOKYO Executive Committee - TV Tokyo, BS TV Tokyo, Nikkei Inc., Jiji Press, Hitohata, TV Aichi)

This exhibition is the world's first immersive digital art museum where visitors can immerse themselves in Japan's proud yokai art heritage—including "Hyakki Yagyo Emaki" (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons), "Hyakumonogatari" (One Hundred Ghost Stories), "Oni" (demons), "Tengu," "Kappa," and "Tsukumogami" (spirit objects)—painted by various artists from the Edo and Meiji periods, brought to life through cutting-edge video technology and three-dimensional sculptures.

Born from the rich imagination of ancient Japanese mythology and folklore, Japanese yokai have been beloved by people around the world across generations. Using state-of-the-art digital technologies including 3D CG, projection mapping, and holographic screens, the humorous figures depicted in yokai paintings and caricatures come dynamically to life. Additionally, realistic yokai worlds are recreated through three-dimensional sculptures.

Furthermore, with cooperation from Nishio City Iwase Bunko, Japan's first rare book museum, and the Yokai Museum in Shodoshima, the exhibition provides explanations of yokai culture, yokai paintings, caricatures, and yokai art, while exploring the culture and history of yokai that connects to modern pop culture.

More information about related events and updates will be announced soon.

Step into the captivating world of "YOKAI" that has mesmerized the world, and enjoy this new sensation of art entertainment where adults and children alike can "enjoy, learn, and experience" yokai culture.

How to Enjoy YOKAI Immersive Experience Exhibition

Immerse Yourself in the World of Yokai Through Three-Dimensional Video Spaces

Experience a three-dimensional video space where yokai dynamically come to life through 3D CG, projection mapping, and holographic screens. Beyond just viewing, you can take videos and photos with the yokai, and enjoy an immersive experience where you become part of the yokai scroll and step into another world.

Encounter "Real Yokai" Through Impressive Three-Dimensional Sculptures

In addition to video spaces, one of the highlights is the yokai realistically recreated through three-dimensional sculptures. Humorous yokai including oni, tengu, kappa, and tsukumogami appear in the physical space. Enjoy the expressions and textures of yokai up close through the collaboration of meticulously crafted sculptures and immersive production.

Learn About Culture Through Precious Yokai Paintings, Caricatures, and Yokai Art Exhibitions with Commentary

The exhibition features actual ukiyo-e prints of yokai by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, and with cooperation from Nishio City Iwase Bunko, Japan's first rare book museum, and the Yokai Museum in Shodoshima, precious yokai paintings and caricatures from the Edo and Meiji periods, such as "Hyakki Yagyo no Zu" and "Hyakumonogatari," are explained. While exploring the cultural and historical background of yokai from ancient Japanese mythology and folklore, the exhibition investigates how yokai connects to modern pop culture.

An Art Experience Enjoyable for Adults, Children, Seniors, and International Visitors

Interactive digital art experiences where you can play with yokai and play content that captivates children allow families to enjoy the world of yokai together. Seating areas are designed for seniors to enjoy comfortably. The content is primarily non-verbal and can be experienced intuitively, with exhibition explanations provided in both Japanese and English.
