Bakery Cafe "dacō" Opens at Karuizawa Bookstore on March 7

The bakery cafe dacō (Dako) is set to open on Saturday, March 7, inside Karuizawa Bookstore (Karuizawa-machi, Kita-Saku-gun, Nagano). The cafe is operated by peace put, the Fukuoka-based company behind AMAM DACOTAN and other well-known bakeries.

The space had previously been home to "MOTOTECA COFFEE" since Karuizawa Bookstore first opened in 2018, and is now being reborn as dacō Karuizawa. Additionally, "I'm donut?" — a fresh donut specialty shop also run by peace put — is scheduled to open at the upcoming Karuizawa T-SITE on Tuesday, March 17.

About dacō Karuizawa

dacō is a bakery cafe built around the concept of an "urban-style bakery for modern needs." The lineup centers on small, bite-sized bread so customers can enjoy a variety without worrying about eating too much — covering everything from savory deli options to cream-filled sweets and straightforward artisan breads.

At the Karuizawa location, around 50 types of bread and approximately 30 types of drinks are on offer. The selection spans savory deli breads, cream-filled sweet pastries, and simple breads that let the ingredients shine, with something to suit different times of day and different moods.

The store is designed around an open kitchen, where bread is made from scratch and baked fresh on-site. Dough, fillings, and sauces are homemade wherever possible, with bakers hand-crafting each piece. Visitors can watch the baking process and enjoy the aroma of bread fresh from the oven.

In addition to takeout, the cafe shares seating with Karuizawa Bookstore, making it easy to settle in with a book and a freshly baked pastry. The space is designed as a relaxed retreat for mornings or afternoons in Karuizawa's natural surroundings.
