JR West Trading Co., Ltd. (President: Michitaka Hirashima; Headquarters: Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture) is launching "Kiha 40 Series DMU Pin Badges (JR West Area, 1st Edition)" at station kiosk shops and other outlets across the JR West area starting Thursday, June 25, 2026. The Kiha 40 series diesel multiple units have been supporting commuter and student transportation on local lines throughout Japan since their debut in 1977. The series continues to operate today, including conversions into sightseeing trains, and plays a role in promoting the appeal of regional communities.
With the series approaching its 50th anniversary of service in 2027, these pin badges are being launched as a pre-anniversary project, recreating the wide variety of liveries carried by Kiha 40 series vehicles that operated across the JR West area.
Kiha 40 Series DMU Pin Badges Reproducing the Diverse Liveries of the JR West Area
This pin badge series was planned in commemoration of the Kiha 40 series DMU's approaching 50th anniversary of service in 2027. The 1st Edition features a total of 12 designs: seven sightseeing trains converted from Kiha 40 series vehicles operating in the JR West area, plus five historical general-service liveries used on the same network.
These badges offer a chance to revisit fond memories while also inviting fans to travel throughout the JR West area and enjoy a Kiha 40-themed journey.
