Introducing "Kiraha" - A Revolutionary Foil Transfer Sheet That Creates Beautiful Foil Accents with Just a Ballpoint Pen

KANMAKI, a 73-year-old foil manufacturer based in Kyoto, has developed a revolutionary foil transfer sheet called 'Kiraha' that creates beautiful foil decorations with the simple act of tracing with a ballpoint pen - just like carbon paper.

The innovative foil transfer sheet 'Kiraha' developed by Kansai Makitori Haku Kogyo Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Sakyoku, Kyoto City, CEO: Takehisa Kubo, hereinafter referred to as KANMAKI), a Kyoto-based foil manufacturer with 73 years of history, has been added to the stationery and miscellaneous goods lineup of the "Hobonichi Techo 2026" series.

Since September 1, 2025, it has been available for purchase on the "Hobonichi Online Store" (https://www.1101.com/store/), the official e-commerce site operated by Hobonichi Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Shigesato Itoi).

The set includes one sheet each of gold, silver, and copper foil transfer sheets, plus one constellation motif template and one postcard.

What is 'Kiraha'?

'Kiraha' is a transfer sheet that lets you enjoy your own unique "foil stamping" on planners and message cards.

No special tools are required - anyone can easily apply beautiful foil decorations with just a ballpoint pen and paper.

The usage is simple. Place the foil transfer sheet on paper and trace letters or patterns with a pen. Slowly peel off the sheet, and genuine foil will transfer to the traced areas, spreading a luxurious shine across the paper surface.

The set contents include an assorted pack of three colors of foil transfer sheets - gold, silver, and copper. Additionally, it comes with one constellation motif template and one postcard, so you can start creating works immediately upon delivery.

The deep, lustrous shine of genuine foil creates a finish that stands apart from typical metallic pens. Cut into small pieces and tuck into your planner cover, and you can easily do foil stamping even when out and about. For daily records and special occasion presentations - 'Kiraha' adds a subtle sparkle to your planner.

Gold creates a glamorous finish, silver provides an understated yet elegant look, and copper offers warmth and sophisticated depth, each delivering a different finished impression.

What is Hobonichi Techo?

The "Hobonichi Techo" is a planner born from the website "Hobonichi" (formerly "Hobonichi Shinbun Itoi"). Under the concept of 'LIFE's BOOK', it serves as a volume that can be used freely and expansively according to each person's lifestyle and preferences, gaining support from a wide range of generations.

This long-selling series reaches its 25th year with the 2026 edition, and the 2025 version sold a cumulative 960,000 copies in over 100 countries and regions worldwide. Its popularity is expanding overseas, particularly in Europe and North America, with overseas sales accounting for over 55% (as of third quarter) of total sales. It continues to grow domestically as well, maintaining the #1 position in planner sales rankings at Loft stores nationwide for 21 consecutive years.

Additionally, this year marks the debut of the first digital version with the "Hobonichi Techo App"! A domestic preview release is scheduled for mid-September 2025.

About KANMAKI Co., Ltd.

Our company is a pigment foil manufacturer headquartered in Ohara, Kyoto. Starting with the development of Japan's first transfer foil "Blocking Foil" using brass powder, which became the foundation for 'Kiraha', we have provided pigment foils as materials that "add foil" to various fields for 73 years since our founding, including logos for famous brands, book cover designs, automotive emblems, and measurement scales on COVID vaccine syringes.

Since June 2020, we have also focused on organizational reforms, including the introduction of a four-day work week and active utilization of external talent. We have received recognition such as Kyoto City's "Companies Spinning the Next 1000 Years" (2021) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's "Shido Next Innovator" Excellence Award (2019).

Furthermore, in January 2025, we launched the web media "Haku Haku" (https://haku-haku.jp) to widely promote the appeal of foil.
