LOST AND FOUND, a general store in Tomigaya, Shibuya operated by tableware maker NIKKO, will mark its 5th anniversary in November 2026. To commemorate the milestone, the store is running a series of projects that revisit its perspective on choosing things and the thinking behind it.
- From Wednesday, October 28: The second edition of ESSENTIAL TOOLS, a limited-time market event, opens. This year's theme is "KITCHEN," with about 40 items selected from the unique viewpoints of art director Naomi Hirabayashi (平林 奈緒美) and selector Kazuto Kobayashi (小林 和人).
- Early November: A special conversation between the two, who have been involved since LOST AND FOUND was launched, will be published on the WEB JOURNAL about how they see and choose things.
- Wednesday, October 28: Two limited colors, "Eggnog" and "Dusty Pink," will be added to the store's original #Single use Planet Cup to celebrate the 5th anniversary.
ESSENTIAL TOOLS 2026 "KITCHEN"
ESSENTIAL TOOLS, which was held for the first time last year, is back. It is a limited-time market event built around professional-use tools used on the job by specialists, which most people rarely come across in daily life. The idea is that when these ESSENTIAL (indispensable, fundamental) tools are brought into everyday life, their value may be seen from new angles, such as convenience and design. LOST AND FOUND art director Naomi Hirabayashi and selector Kazuto Kobayashi dig into such tools and make the selection.
The Second Edition's Theme Is "KITCHEN"
The lineup brings together about 40 items that the two searched out and selected with their own eyes, ranging from tools actually used by chefs and other food professionals to products not currently sold in Japan.
Tools made for professionals have reasons they keep being used: ease of use, durability, and a form with nothing wasted. Some are also unexpectedly beautiful as a result of pursuing function. Bringing them into an everyday kitchen may reveal charms of tools that you had not noticed before.
At "ESSENTIAL TOOLS 2026 'KITCHEN,'" each product comes with a tag carrying a comment from Hirabayashi or Kobayashi, introducing the item together with their view of why they chose it. The event can be enjoyed at the store and also at the online store.

Regency Wraps: Lemon Stretch Wraps (¥1,100)

"It saves me the fruitless time of carefully picking out the tiny lemon seeds. There is no worry about seeds falling in when squeezing lemon over a meal at the table. I also like the look, including the packaging." (Selected by Naomi Hirabayashi)

Gefu: Pizza cutter MONZA (¥3,960)

"Its single-minded focus on cutting pizza is appealing. It comes with a cover that protects the blade, so it is also safe to carry around." (Selected by Kazuto Kobayashi)
Gude: Utility Serrated Knife, White / Blue (¥7,700)

"A long-established knife maker in Solingen, Germany, now in its fourth generation. The handle is made of acetal resin, known for its high strength and wear resistance. The vivid blue is refreshing." (Selected by Kazuto Kobayashi)

5th Anniversary Limited Item: #Single use Planet Cup in Limited Colors

Two limited colors celebrating the 5th anniversary are being added to the "#Single use Planet Cup." Warm-toned "Eggnog" and "Dusty Pink" join the existing three colors. The slightly muted, soft shades that blend well with the white of NIKKO fine bone china were selected by art director Naomi Hirabayashi. Each color is limited to 200 pieces.
Comment from Naomi Hirabayashi
I think that among the things used around food, there are colors that look good on the item itself, and colors that feel right once the item is used, that is, once something is put in it. When I choose tableware, I go for the latter.
I want things that feel comfortable to use whether I have energy or not, and I felt that slightly muted colors suit the distinctive white of NIKKO fine bone china, so I chose these five colors. This time I wanted to add warm colors that had not been there before, so I chose pink and yellow.

Marking the 5th Anniversary
True to its name, which means "lost property storage," LOST AND FOUND has been finding and introducing things that were made over a long time on the basis of solid technique but got lost among the many other things, and things that still hold value today but were buried by the flow of the times.
On the occasion of its 5th anniversary, the store will take another look at the perspective on choosing things that it has cherished so far and the thinking behind it, and convey it.
The store plans not to stop at this anniversary project, but to keep offering content that explores the relationship between things and people, and between things and daily life, from the viewpoint unique to LOST AND FOUND.
