Kyukamura Norikura Kogen Opens Three Renovated "Comfort Bunk" Rooms for Family and Multigenerational Stays on December 7

Kyukamura Norikura Kogen, a resort hotel at the southern end of the Northern Alps in Chubu-Sangaku National Park, is fully renovating three guest rooms to meet growing demand for multigenerational and family trips. The new room type, "Comfort Bunk" (32.6 sq m), opens for reservations on Sunday, November 1, and guests can stay from Monday, December 7, 2026.

The room capacity rises from the previous 2 guests to a maximum of 4. The renovation adds more of the large-capacity rooms that the Norikura Highlands area lacks, and the hotel supports multigenerational and family travelers.

A limited-time renovation commemoration plan will also be sold from December 7, 2026 to March 14, 2027, with ¥2,000 off for adults and half price for elementary school children.

Background: Closing the Gap in Large-Capacity Rooms

Rooms where families, three generations or groups can stay together comfortably in the same room with beds, sleeping four or more guests, have been in short supply across the entire Norikura Highlands area. As a result, the area has not been able to fully meet the lodging demand of families and similar groups. The hotel aims to provide a stay environment where everyone from children to older guests can relax with peace of mind.

Renovation Funded by Nagano Prefecture's Accommodation Tax Program

Nagano Prefecture introduced an accommodation tax in June 2026 as part of its goal of becoming a "world-class mountain highland tourist destination." The projects funded by the tax include (1) improving the stay environment, (2) promoting tourism-oriented community development, and (3) improving access, including secondary transportation. One of the main initiatives is "support for improving the environment of accommodation facilities," and the new Comfort Bunk rooms are being renovated as part of it.

Three Features of the New "Comfort Bunk" Room

1. High-Quality Bunk Beds Combining Design and Safety

The new Comfort Bunk rooms feature reliable, high-quality bunk beds (two-tier beds), and the interior has been completely redone.

  • Doubled capacity: While keeping a design that blends into the room's interior, capacity doubles from 2 guests to a maximum of 4.
  • Safety: The beds comply with JIS and SG standards, providing a space where families and groups can sleep comfortably and with peace of mind.

2. "ReFace Tile," a Japanese-Modern Floor for Going Barefoot

The room floors use the high-performance flooring material "ReFace Tile," which brings out the beauty of traditional Japanese weaves and a Japanese-modern, upscale feel.

  • Relaxing in bare feet: The rooms switch from the previous shoes-on use to a universal living space where guests take off their shoes and spend time barefoot.
  • Safety: The flooring offers excellent cushioning and slip resistance, creating an environment where small children and older travelers can feel at ease.

3. Labor Saving and Cleaning Efficiency for a Hotel Industry Challenge

Adopting ReFace Tile does more than improve guest comfort. It also helps ease the hotel industry's challenge of labor shortages and workload in room cleaning.

  • Easy maintenance: High water resistance and ease of cleaning improve the efficiency of daily cleaning.
  • Higher productivity: Labor-saving cleaning work strengthens the hotel's ability to keep operating sustainably.
