A new interactive exhibition titled "Mamoru Hosoda Works and Thought Experiment Exhibition" opens at SHIBUYA TSUTAYA's basement floor from November 21, 2025, coinciding with the theatrical release of Studio Chizu's latest film "Scarlet." The event combines immersive spatial experiences, an introductory story, and event-exclusive merchandise.
The exhibition is a collaboration between Studio Chizu director Mamoru Hosoda's new film "Scarlet" and the Thought Experiment Exhibition concept. It also celebrates the 19th anniversary of "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" along with other beloved works.
Featured Films
The exhibition features seven of Hosoda's works:
- The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
- Summer Wars
- Wolf Children
- The Boy and the Beast
- Mirai
- Belle
- Scarlet
Interactive Experience
Visitors are guided by cast members acting as guides through spaces that recreate the worlds of each Hosoda film. Throughout the experience, questions without definitive answers are posed based on themes from each work.
In Hosoda's films, characters who fight for what they cherish make decisions that change their fate. In this interactive exhibition, visitors face numerous choices under the theme: "If you were confronted with that scene from the movie, what choice would you make?"
At the end of the experience, participants receive the results of their thought experiments, allowing them to reflect on their choices and discover aspects of themselves they never knew.
Unlike traditional viewing-only exhibitions, this is an interactive experience where visitors actively think and act while conversing with the cast—an event that not only deepens enjoyment of Hosoda's works but also provides an opportunity to confront one's own thoughts and values.
Venue Interior Reveals
Four areas have been unveiled: the "Cinema Entrance," the "Classroom from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time," "Jutengai from The Boy and the Beast," and the "Hallway with Signs from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time."
In each area, guides from various worlds appear to converse with and lead visitors.

Story
You arrive at a certain cinema. The reception area glows softly, with subdued lighting illuminating the red doors and rugs. A guide stands there, well-dressed and composed, stepping forward to speak.
"Please share your choices and your thoughts with us. You are the protagonist."
Following the guide's invitation, you open the cinema doors. To discover what questions await on this journey, you step into the world of the films.
Event-Exclusive Merchandise
The event features original merchandise exclusive to this exhibition, including T-shirts, mini thermo bottles, premium B2 posters, trading foil-stamped ticket-style cards, stickers, and trading can badges inspired by each film.
Past merchandise from the works will also be available, bringing the total to over 100 items.

About Scarlet
Youth, family bonds, parental love, friendship across species, the cycle of life, and the worlds of reality and virtuality...
Animation film director Mamoru Hosoda continues to captivate audiences in Japan and around the world with various thematic works.
In his latest work "Scarlet," he ventures into entirely new territory in both story and visual expression.
The protagonist is Princess Scarlet, who swears revenge against the enemy who killed her father, the king.
Awakening in the "Land of the Dead," she continues her journey while surrendering to the battle for revenge, encounters a nurse named Hijiri who came from the modern era through time, and is moved and changed by her trust and love for him—an emotional story.
This story confronts all viewers with the essential question: "What does it mean to live?"
The film also challenges entirely new animation expressions, departing from previous styles. A world full of madness is depicted grandly and vividly through overwhelming visuals that are neither 2D nor 3D.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is also participating in the production, and worldwide distribution has been confirmed.
From Japan to the world, "Scarlet" will be released.
Nineteen years since "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time." The grand themes and inner worlds that Director Mamoru Hosoda has continued to depict.
The spirit that flows at its core remains unchanged, grasping and deeply shaking the hearts of all who watch—
