Enjyukaku Bekkan, a building inside Marugame Castle that officially became a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property on July 9, 2026, is opening as accommodation under the name "Marugame Castle Enjyukaku Bekkan Kazeno Heritage," run by Kazeno Heritage Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Kyoto; represented by Jun Tarikino). Reservations open on Saturday, August 1, 2026, with check-ins starting Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Enjyukaku Bekkan has until now been used as accommodation for the castle-stay business "Marugame Castle Experience" (丸亀城キャッスルエクスペリエンス), held within Marugame Castle. It is being rolled out in a new style of stay, available for private rental as an entire building.
National Registered Cultural Property Enjyukaku Bekkan: A Historic Space Tied to the Kyogoku Family
Enjyukaku Bekkan was built in 1933 (Showa 8) as the VIP reception room of a guesthouse in the third bailey of Marugame Castle, and is now a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Fittings such as the alcove surrounds, ceilings, nageshi beams, and decorative metalwork were brought over from the Tokyo Azabu residence of the Kyogoku family, who once ruled the Marugame domain.
Enjyukaku Bekkan, previously reserved for guests of Marugame Castle Experience, is now also offered as the "Marugame Castle Enjyukaku Bekkan Simple Stay." Under this plan, a single group can rent the entire villa for the night, with meals and cultural experiences available as optional extras that can be freely combined to match each traveler's itinerary and purpose. Guests can enjoy a new way of exploring Marugame and the Seto Inland Sea area, based at this historic cultural property.

An Entire Villa in Harmony with the Castle's Historic Setting
Enjyukaku Bekkan sits atop the high stone walls of the third bailey of the former Marugame Castle, making it a rare place to stay within the castle grounds themselves.
From the cherry-wood veranda along the south side, guests can take in the openness of the elevated location, with views reaching Sanuki Fuji (Iinoyama), the town of Marugame, and the Sanuki plain in the distance.
Built around a shoin-zukuri layout, the space retains design details from its original construction, including a double-layered Yakusugi cedar ceiling, a transom carved with a paulownia pattern, a cherry-wood veranda, and snow-viewing glass windows.
Cultural Experiences to Match Your Stay
To make each stay more personal, guests can now freely combine cultural experiences previously offered only through Marugame Castle Experience, choosing options that suit their itinerary and purpose.
Options include a welcome performance by the Marugame Taiko Preservation Society, a private tour of the castle keep after closing hours, and a Marugame uchiwa fan-making experience, letting guests engage with Marugame's culture as much or as little as they like.
By choosing only what they need, guests can more easily build a stay that fits a range of itineraries, from consecutive nights to a wider tour of the Seto Inland Sea area.
A New Stay Style Following Marugame's Castle-Stay Business
This plan grew out of Marugame City's push to develop a castle-stay business. It expands the accommodation space developed through that project into a format that meets a wider range of stay needs, while continuing to support the preservation and use of historic buildings and tourism-driven community development.

About Enjyukaku Bekkan
Enjyukaku Bekkan is a wooden building on a stone foundation, built in 1933 (Showa 8) in the third bailey of Marugame Castle. Its name comes from the retirement chamber of the 6th domain lord, Kyogoku Takaakira. During its construction, design elements and materials were brought over from the Tokyo Azabu residence of Viscount Kyogoku Takaosa, and the building was relocated and rebuilt as a guest reception room.
The main structure has a hipped roof finished with sangawara tiles, surrounded by a lower roof covered in flat-seam copper sheeting. The entrance features an irimoya-style gabled roof and a moon-viewing window that lets in natural light. Built around a shoin-zukuri layout with carefully chosen materials and finishes, the space retains the formality of a former feudal lord's residence.
