THE MARITIME HOTEL YOKOHAMA BAY, a 50-Room Hotel in the Historic Yokohama Yusen Building, Opens January 30, 2027 With Reservations Now Open

THE MARITIME HOTEL YOKOHAMA BAY (ザ マリタイムホテル 横浜ベイ) will open on Saturday, January 30, 2027 in Naka Ward, Yokohama, and reservations are now open. The hotel takes over the Yokohama Yusen Building (横浜郵船ビル), completed in 1936 and known as "Yokohama's last classical-style building," and offers a private hotel with 50 guest rooms in total.

The hotel is a two-minute walk from Bashamichi Station on the Minatomirai Line and is also close to the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse and the Minato Mirai area. Its rooms are themed on the world's ports along the former Nippon Yusen (日本郵船) shipping routes, so guests can stay as if traveling through the city of Yokohama.

The total direction of the hotel was handled by hideya, representative director of Whighender Co., Ltd. and an artistic director. Everything guests encounter during their stay, from the room furniture and lighting to the scent drifting through the building, the palm-sized room keys, and the amenities, is tied together by a single worldview, so that every time guests open a door, it feels as if a journey is beginning.

During a stay, guests can relax in rooms with interiors designed by hideya, and use a lounge where guests can spend time freely, a fitness gym open 24 hours that is the first in a Japanese hotel to introduce "Nike Strength" training equipment, in-room spa treatments, and rental bikes.

Room Design Concept: Traveling the World's Ports Alongside the History of Nippon Yusen and Yokohama

The design concept is described this way: "Rather than reproducing past styles as they were, we read the time carved into the building since 1936 and the memories of Yokohama, which was connected to the world through its port, and translate them into contemporary materials, colors, and light."

Each guest room weaves in the memory of a country or region once linked to Yokohama Port through trade, including Bengal, Alexandria, Marseille, Boston, and Canton. In the room inspired by India, for example, designs are not quoted directly. Instead, the colors, materials, and layered weaves are used to evoke the atmosphere of the place. The different story told in each room connects into a single sea route across the whole hotel, offering a stay that feels like traveling to distant lands while still in Yokohama.

Furniture combining the handwork of Japanese artisans with materials that arrived from overseas is also a highlight, such as tables with Arita ware tops and chairs upholstered in fabrics selected from around the world.

The building was once Nippon Yusen's Yokohama branch, and this background is reflected in the space design. Ship models tied to the site and era, along with furnishings from former cruise ships, are displayed as art throughout the hotel.

The lobby is designed as the entrance to an onboard theater, the dining area as a meal on a ship's deck, and the bar as a place of experimentation where Eastern and Western cultures meet. The hotel has 50 guest rooms in total, each with its own colors and story drawn from a different port town.

Even the placement and shadows of the lighting, the scent drifting through the building, and the original room keys and amenities have been designed, giving a story to the passing of time itself as it moves from the facade to the lobby, the guest rooms, and the bar at night.

Facilities for Spending Time at Your Own Pace

From check-in to check-out, guests can spend their stay freely. A morning workout at the gym, followed by a breakfast inspired by food cultures around the world. A ride around Yokohama's port town on a rental bike during the day, and a break in the lounge at dusk. A drink at the bar in the evening, and an in-room spa treatment in the guest room. Guests can build their own Yokohama stay to suit their mood.

Guest Lounge

Guest lounge

A lounge reserved for hotel guests is available for relaxing during the stay. Next to the entrance lobby, the lounge has an impressive ceiling height, with a ceiling design that has been carefully preserved since the building's founding. Guests can sink into large, solid furniture and spend leisurely time with a light snack or a drink, in a space reminiscent of a salon on a sea voyage.

The lounge is planned to offer snacks, sweets, and drinks, including alcohol, suited to the time of day, such as a pre-outing brunch, a cafe break after check-in, an aperitivo before dinner, or a nightcap before bed.

  • Hours: 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Eligibility: Guests staying on plans that include lounge access only

Fitness Gym With "Nike Strength," a First in a Japanese Hotel

Fitness gym

Fitness gym

The fitness gym will introduce "Nike Strength" training equipment, the first time it has been installed in a hotel in Japan. It is a wellness space where guests can look after body and mind while traveling, surrounded by the energy of Nike.

Nike Strength is a brand of strength training equipment that Nike offers for everyone from professional athletes to people who train regularly. Some products use "Nike Grind," Nike's sustainable material made from surplus material left over from shoe manufacturing, and the hotel also uses it for the gym flooring. Sales began in Japan in December 2025, and this is the first introduction to a hotel in Japan. The gym deliberately has no treadmills. Instead, the hotel recommends running courses that let guests enjoy Yokohama's streetscape as they run.

Sportswear and shoes are lent free of charge, so guests can work out without bringing anything.

  • Rental items (free): Sportswear, shoes
  • Eligibility: Hotel guests only

All-Day Dining "Restaurant Deck"

Terrace seating

The all-day dining restaurant, "Restaurant Deck" (レストラン デック), has a dining room reminiscent of a lively ship's deck and a terrace where a pleasant breeze passes through. Dishes are Italian-based, with touches of Spanish cooking and the flavors of the world's port towns, served in a different style for each time of day from morning to night.

In the morning, there is a buffet inspired by diverse food cultures along with a choice of main dish, and at lunch an à la carte or prix fixe menu. In the afternoon, guests can have an elegant cafe break with desserts by the pastry chef, and in the evening, a varied dinner centered on Italian and Spanish cuisine, served à la carte or as a course. Food is prepared in a lively open kitchen, so each freshly made dish arrives with the sounds and aromas of the kitchen.

The adjoining bar is a space like an "experimental ground" where Eastern and Western cultures intersect. It stocks a wide range of drinks, including whiskies and craft gins selected from Japan and abroad, and can be used casually for an aperitif on the terrace or conversation after dinner.

The restaurant is open not only to hotel guests but also to outside visitors. Restaurant reservations are scheduled to open around December.

Services for Morning to Night

The hotel offers services that let guests enjoy the hotel stay and the city of Yokohama as they like, in the room or around town, from a plate in the morning to a treatment at night.

  • Room service: Private meals in the guest room (breakfast 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM; lunch and dinner 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM (L.O.))

Under the concept "Toward a voyage where culture and sensibility resonate," THE MARITIME HOTEL YOKOHAMA BAY is a hotel that carries on the memories and dreams of voyages carved into this place. The story of Yokohama, Japan's foremost trading port, the beautiful furnishings and foreign cultures gathered from around the world, East and West, and past and present come together, and sensibilities resonate across borders. The hotel invites its guests on a voyage across the sea and through time.
