Kazeno Heritage Launches New Hotel Brand Series for Stays in Japan's Cultural Heritage Buildings

Kazeno Heritage Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) launched its new hotel brand series "Kazeno Heritage" on February 4, 2026. The brand focuses on preserving Japan's historical buildings — from castles and grand residences to entire historic townscapes — and connecting them to the future through overnight stays and immersive experiences.

Following the opening of "Kyu-Soma-ke Kazeno Heritage" in Hakodate, Hokkaido, and the reservation launch for "Kazeno Kurayoshi" in Tottori Prefecture, the company announced on June 3, 2026, that two existing facilities in Nara City and Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture, would be rebranded under the "Kazeno" line, with further updates to their spaces and services planned going forward.

From Preservation to Places That Remain Needed

Across Japan, population decline, rising maintenance costs, a shortage of caretakers, and urban redevelopment have made it increasingly difficult to pass on historic buildings and townscapes to future generations. Kazeno Heritage Co., Ltd. promotes a model that turns the conservation and succession of cultural assets into a sustainable business through hotel operations and stay experiences — aiming to keep these places not just standing, but actively valued and used.

The brand envisions travel as something that evolves from merely consuming a destination into actively preserving, restoring, and passing on its cultural heritage. Guests can contribute to the future of a place through the acts of staying, walking, tasting, and meeting people.

Two Brand Categories

The Kazeno Heritage brand series organizes its properties into two distinct categories:

1. Kazeno Heritage
An exclusive luxury stay centered on the cultural heritage of a region. Properties in this category involve stays within historical buildings that serve as the symbol of their area — such as castles or grand estates. Guests' stays are directly linked to the maintenance and restoration of these cultural assets.

2. Kazeno (Kazeno Hotels)
Heritage retreat inns designed for exploring entire towns. The front desk, guest rooms, dining, and lounges are distributed throughout a town, making the exploration of the area itself a central part of the stay experience. Guests can enjoy local scenery — from samurai residences and machiya townhouses to local cuisine, sake brewing, festivals, crafts, and nature.

Three Experience Categories

Within the two brand categories, properties are further classified into three experience types based on their characteristics and surroundings:

Kazeno Heritage at Castle: The Wind Only Felt Here in the World

This category offers special stay experiences centered on Japanese castles, allowing guests to immerse themselves deeply in the history and stories of the land. Castles and their surrounding facilities are reserved exclusively for a single group, with experience programs offering a full sensory encounter with samurai culture, regional traditions, and historic architecture.

Kazeno Heritage at Villa: Stay in Japan's Treasures, Feel the Graceful Wind

Properties in this category offer full exclusive rental of historically significant estates, villas, and refined gardens — including nationally designated Important Cultural Properties and Registered Tangible Cultural Properties. Guests can stay as if living in a piece of living cultural heritage. Two facilities in the Kyoto area have already been operating under this brand name since April 2026.

"Kazeno Kurayoshi" in Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture, is scheduled for its grand opening on July 17, 2026, as the first property purpose-built for this category. Two existing facilities will be rebranded on June 3, 2026, with their spaces and services to be progressively updated.
