Characters from the My Hero Academia anime are coming to hanafuda playing cards, as Charaditional Toy — a brand by Tokio Gets Co., Ltd. that blends characters with traditional Japanese culture — releases a special hanafuda set featuring the series.
The cards are finished with a premium lining by Oishi Tengudo, a long-established manufacturer in Kyoto founded in 1800 (Kansei 12). The gentle "warp" seen in each card comes from a traditional technique passed down since the Edo period, in which the lining is carefully brushed on and glued by hand. The set pairs the characters with classic hanafuda card designs, and the original wooden box the cards come in can also double as a business card holder or small accessory case, depending on how you use it.
