A new series of limited-edition fans pairs beloved Japanese anime characters with Marugame Uchiwa — a traditional fan craft from Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture, that dates back to the Edo period. Available through Kaguya's newly opened official online store, this summer 2026 collaboration marks the first release from the shop, with pre-orders for the first sales term now underway.
The project aims to spotlight traditional crafts that are increasingly at risk due to lifestyle changes and a shortage of successors. By collaborating with widely recognized works of modern Japanese culture, the collection introduces Marugame Uchiwa to younger generations and international audiences while supporting the artisans behind the craft.

A Fusion of Tradition and Modern Culture
The Marugame Uchiwa's elegant silhouette, shaped over centuries of craftsmanship, serves as the canvas for character artwork from some of Japan's most recognized series. Each fan brings a touch of summer alongside a favorite character.

47 Steps of Artisan Craft
From selecting and splitting bamboo to applying paper and sun-drying the finished frame, each Marugame Uchiwa goes through 47 individual steps. Skilled craftspeople handle every stage with precision, delivering a warmth and quality that sets these fans apart from mass-produced items.
A Lightweight Summer Companion
As a nationally designated Traditional Craft, the Marugame circular fan is known for producing a gentle breeze through its light, finely split bamboo ribs. Its compact size makes it easy to carry wherever summer takes you.

For all collaborated works, 3 designs are available for each product type, for a total of 6 types:
- Marugame Uchiwa (Nationally designated Traditional Craft): ¥4,950 (tax included)
- Bamboo Uchiwa (handcrafted): ¥2,970 (tax included)
The Traditional Craft designation applies to the Marugame Uchiwa only. The Bamboo Uchiwa offers a more accessible price point through different materials and techniques, while keeping the same fan shape.
