Okashi no Taiyo's Ice Pop-Style Halloween Baumkuchen Sticks Get Two New Designs This Year

Okashi no Taiyo (お菓子のたいよう), a confectionery shop long loved in Chiba Prefecture, is once again selling its Halloween-limited sweet "Halloween Bar Baum" (ハロウィン・バーバウム), the first of its Halloween sweets this season. Moist, chewy baumkuchen baked with 100% Chiba-grown rice flour is shaped into an "ice pop-style stick" that can be eaten with one hand. Coated in rich chocolate and decorated with cute ghostly characters, the bars gain two new designs this year.

The online shop also sells a gift box in a design made only for 2026, limited to just 20 boxes. Both items are sold while supplies last.

Where to Buy

Baumkuchen That Looks Like an Ice Pop

Halloween Bar Baum, baumkuchen shaped like an ice pop

The Halloween Bar Baum turns baumkuchen made with 100% Chiba-grown rice flour, known for its moist, chewy texture, into a bright, cute ice pop-style stick. It is a treat that sends children visiting the shop jumping up and down with excitement.

Three Things to Like

  1. Ice pop-style baumkuchen that doesn't melt

It looks just like a real ice pop. Because it is baumkuchen, there is no worry about melting, and it can be eaten in a bite without getting your hands dirty.

  2. A rich, melt-in-the-mouth texture from Chiba rice flour

Rice flour gives a chewy, moist texture and a light melt in the mouth. It is enjoyed by adults and children alike.

  3. Cute enough to share on social media

The cute look makes it a fun choice for a small gift or a surprise present, and a treat likely to get people asking, "Where did you buy this?"

Every year, children and adults alike greet the seasonal sweet with cheers of "I've never seen anything like this!" This year, with new members joining the lineup, it is livelier than ever. Visitors can choose a favorite from five distinctive designs.

All Five Designs

Annual Favorites (3 designs)

The three regular designs: Border, Ghost and Monster

  • Pumpkin lantern "Border"
  • A little scary but cute "Ghost"
  • Shaggy blue "Monster"

New This Year (2 designs)

The two new designs: One-Eye and Creature

  • Magical pink "One-Eye"
  • Suspicious yet cute "Creature"

Every bar is handmade by artisans, so each one has its own charm. They are cute enough that you may want to collect them all.

Cute on the Outside, Carefully Made Inside

Halloween Bar Baum coated in chocolate

Each bar is coated generously in chocolate, all the way to the edges and with no gaps, for a look and a richness that make a strong impression.

But these bars are more than just cute. To see what makes them tasty, here is a look inside the chocolate.

Beneath the rich chocolate shell is rice-flour baumkuchen with neatly stacked layers.

Rice flour gives a chewy, moist texture that wheat flour cannot match. Together with the gentle sweetness of rice, it melts smoothly in the mouth.

Artisans bake each piece carefully, and all of the decoration is done by hand. Because the expressions differ slightly, each bar feels like a one-of-a-kind item.

Too cute to bite into at first, but once you do, you will want another bite. That is the appeal of these bars, which are as pleasing to look at as they are to eat.

Chiba-Grown Rice Flour and Carefully Chosen Ingredients

Okashi no Taiyo's baumkuchen is made with carefully selected ingredients and baked layer by layer by artisans at the shop's own factory. Cutting the round baumkuchen into bar-sized pieces one by one and inserting them onto ice pop sticks is also done entirely by hand.

Ingredients

  • 100% Kyushu-grown "pure fresh cream"

Made from high-quality raw milk raised in Kyushu's rich dairy region, with a rich milky taste, deep savoriness and a full aroma.

  • 100% animal-fat "domestic butter"

Its rich flavor and aroma blend with the milky taste of the fresh cream to create a deep flavor.

  • 100% Chiba-grown "rice flour"

Grown in Chiba's mild climate with its abundant water. Because the rice flour batter is clean-tasting and fresh, the richness of the butter, the milky taste of the cream and the aroma of the cacao in the chocolate stand out. It is the rice flour Okashi no Taiyo takes pride in for bringing out the flavor of its ingredients.

The artisans want to turn the bounty of their home in Chiba into sweets and deliver them to customers. That feeling, along with a spirit of local production for local consumption, goes into every piece.

Pumpkin Lantern "Border"

Pumpkin lantern Border

Pumpkin lantern Border, another angle

  • Sweet milk chocolate base
  • Topped with a cute pumpkin lantern chocolate
  • Border (stripe) pattern drawn in white chocolate
  • Full of Halloween mood in both look and taste

The white-and-orange striped pattern is hand-painted one bar at a time with white chocolate. The bright, cute look lifts the mood.

Soft rice-flour baumkuchen is wrapped in sweet milk chocolate, so the mellow aroma of cacao and the richness of milk spread the moment it enters your mouth. The moist baumkuchen layers and the chocolate melt together in a classic flavor that is easy for anyone to like.

A Little Scary but Cute "Ghost"

Ghost

Ghost, another angle

  • Bittersweet dark chocolate base
  • Crunchy raspberry "pearl crackin" with a sweet-tart flavor
  • Ghost decorated with white chocolate
  • Not too sweet, with a bitter taste that is the most popular among adults

A cute face with a bittersweet taste. The ghost's expression is hand-drawn in dark chocolate by an artisan, so once in a while a bar with a different face may be mixed in. Finding one is a lucky moment.

One bite brings the bitterness of cacao together with the sweet tartness of raspberry. The red bits are "pearl crackin," cereal coated in raspberry-flavored chocolate. Their crunchy texture and fruity tartness make an excellent accent to the rich chocolate.

It is a slightly more grown-up Halloween sweet for those who find sweetness alone unsatisfying.

Shaggy Blue "Monster"

Monster

Monster, another angle

  • Milky white chocolate base
  • Crunchy chocolate sprinkles recreate the shaggy fur
  • Eyes and mouth in a mix of white and dark chocolate
  • The monster that is the most popular among children

Covered head to toe in vivid chocolate sprinkles, the Monster stares back with big eyes. It looks ready to say, "Whoa, it's going to eat me!"

With its big eyes looking at you, it may feel a little sad to take a bite. But it is sweet and milky, and the crunch of the chocolate sprinkles keeps going. It is a sweet, cheerful monster that wins over children.

[New] Magical Pink "One-Eye"

One-Eye

One-Eye, another angle

  • Debut: the first pink Halloween Bar Baum
  • Milky white chocolate base
  • Colorful mints with a fun crunchy texture
  • Already a favorite that girls reach for first

Cute or suspicious? Once the "One-Eye" looks at you, you are hooked.

A purple one-eyed ghost sits on the first pink body in the Halloween Bar Baum lineup. With colorful mints scattered generously over it, the slightly suspicious monster has become bright and cute.

True to its cute look, it tastes of sweet white chocolate. The milky sweetness and crunchy mints combine with the moist, chewy rice-flour baumkuchen.

[New] Suspicious Yet Cute "Creature"

Creature

Creature, another angle

  • A mysterious gray body. What does it taste like?
  • Milky white chocolate base
  • Colorful mints with a fun crunchy texture
  • A playful creature chocolate with horns and small fangs

What does this gray one taste like?

A green creature grins on a slightly suspicious body. It may think it is scaring you with its horns and small fangs, but a closer look shows it is rather playful. Colorful mints are scattered over it, and its cuteness shines through the suspicious look.

Take a bite and it turns out to be sweet white chocolate. The milky sweetness and the crunch of the mints go well with the moist, chewy rice-flour baumkuchen. The gentle sweetness, which you would not guess from the look, is sure to bring a smile.
