OMO5 Kanazawa Katamachi by Hoshino Resorts, a "city-center" hotel built around the concept "Appare! Aji no Katamachi" (あっぱれ!味のかたまち) and designed to let guests savor their trip to Kanazawa to the fullest, is holding a winter-limited edition of the "Kanazawa KOGEI Night Salon" from December 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027.
A new "Meguru Fuyu no Kashidokoro" (めぐる冬の菓子処) lets guests taste selected sweets on the spot and put together their own box of sweets. In addition, hotel staff roast tea leaves right in front of guests while introducing the history of Kaga bocha and the particular approach of each tea shop. Kaga bocha is a hojicha made by roasting the stem part of the tea plant, according to the Ishikawa Prefecture Tea Merchants Association (石川県茶商工業協同組合). The evening takes place in a space decorated with traditional crafts of Ishikawa and Kanazawa, and is held as part of "Local Rhythm Night," the evening event offered at OMO hotels across Japan.
Background
Kanazawa is known as one of Japan's "Three Great Confectionery Towns" along with Kyoto and Matsue, as introduced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Many renowned sweets shops are found in the city, but after a full day of sightseeing that stretches into the evening, there are only a limited number of places where visitors can buy sweets.
OMO5 Kanazawa Katamachi therefore wanted to offer a place where guests can enjoy selected sweets as if touring famous shops. The idea is a cozy way to spend a night in Kanazawa, surrounded by the aroma of freshly roasted tea.
Three Features of the Winter-Limited "Kanazawa KOGEI Night Salon"
1. Put Together Your Own Box of Sweets at "Meguru Fuyu no Kashidokoro"

With the cooperation of nine sweets shops loved in Kanazawa, the new "Meguru Fuyu no Kashidokoro" (めぐる冬の菓子処) offers a lineup of selected sweets. Guests pick the sweets they like, a little at a time, to put together an original box of sweets. The box, designed with an old map motif, is completed by wrapping it in a furoshiki cloth. Beyond enjoying the sweets on the spot, guests can take them home with their travel memories and savor the lingering taste of Kanazawa after returning.
Participating Sweets Shops
- 茶菓工房たろう: Mori no Oto (もりの音)
- 落雁 諸江屋: 千代古禮糖

2. Enjoy Sweets With Freshly Roasted Tea

Staff who have received instruction from long-established tea shops roast tea leaves in front of guests while introducing the history of Kaga bocha and the particular approach of each tea shop. By comparing two kinds of tea made with different roasting methods, guests can enjoy the differences in the color, aroma, and flavor of the tea leaves. The tea served changes from day to day, and guests can also enjoy pairing it with the sweets.
Cooperating Tea Shops

Maruhachi Seichaba (丸八製茶場)
Founded in 1863 (Bunkyu 3), the company produces and sells quality Japanese tea in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It gathers good raw materials from across Japan and studies roasting techniques every day to bring out a fragrant aroma and the individual character of each tea.

Nodaya Tea Shop (野田屋茶店)
Located in Tatemachi Shopping Street, a 5-minute walk from OMO5 Kanazawa Katamachi, this long-established shop has been run for five generations since the late Edo period. It continues to make its distinctive flavor, combining two roasting methods: direct-fire roasting and sand roasting.
3. A Setting Featuring Traditional Crafts of Ishikawa and Kanazawa
The space is decorated with traditional crafts such as "Kanazawa gold leaf" (金沢箔) and "Kaga mizuhiki craft" (加賀水引細工), made by artisans who put their high level of skill into each piece. The decorations have been expanded this year, making the space even more striking. The tea utensils include traditional crafts such as "Kutani ware" (九谷焼), "Wajima lacquerware" (輪島塗), and "paulownia wood craft" (桐工芸), well suited to enjoying tea and sweets unique to Kanazawa. Seeing the crafts up close and actually using them lets guests experience the appeal of each craft and the delicate skill of the artisans.

Cooperating Craft Studios

Tsuda Mizuhiki Orikata (津田水引折型)
Mizuhiki is considered a traditional form of Japanese wrapping. Its basic process has three steps: "wrapping" with washi paper, "tying" with mizuhiki cords, and "writing" the giver's feelings with a brush. Kaga mizuhiki has now been passed down through five generations, and the studio continues to evolve mizuhiki while protecting and passing on its essence.

Hakuza (箔座)
Founded in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, in the early Showa era, Hakuza protects the technique of "縁付金箔," a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, and makes gold leaf used in the restoration of important cultural properties such as the Konjikido of Chuson-ji Temple and Nishi Hongan-ji Temple. Through its themed shops in Kanazawa, it also develops high-value-added products that make use of gold leaf, sharing traditional techniques and the appeal of Kanazawa gold leaf.

Taya Lacquerware Shop (田谷漆器店)
The shop is steadily moving forward on the road to recovery from the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake. Thanks to the warm support of many people, it has been able to continue making Wajima lacquerware. Valuing the sense of beauty and dignity that lives in Japanese daily life, it aims to contribute to society through Wajima lacquerware.
