Paper products maker Maruai Co., Ltd. is releasing a playful new message card designed to be tucked inside a pochi-bukuro, the small decorative envelope used for handing over cash gifts: the "Pochi-bukuro Omikuji Card," an omikuji-style ("fortune slip") card going on sale October 13, 2026 (Tuesday) for 330 yen (tax included).
Maruai marks its 138th year in business this year as a paper goods manufacturer. The company has long made products such as celebratory envelopes and envelopes that help carry people's feelings for one another at both special occasions and everyday moments.
As cashless payments and e-money have become more widespread in recent years, sending money has grown ever more convenient. The Pochi-bukuro Omikuji Card is an omikuji-style message card meant to be placed inside a pochi-bukuro when giving money. Its playful, fortune-slip-style design offers a fun way to wish good luck and happiness on the recipient.
Each set contains five cards, with five humorous fortune levels in the lineup — including "Dai-dai-dai-kichi" and "Happy-kichi" — each carrying its own message to enjoy. The cards also feature gold foil stamping for an extra festive, special-occasion feel.
Space is provided at the bottom of each card to write a message, so adding a note of thanks or encouragement makes for an even more heartfelt card.
