Sannomiya Yokocho's Grown-Ups' Summer Festival 2026 Set for September 6 in Kobe

Directly connected to the west exit of Hankyu Sannomiya Station, Sannomiya Yokocho is bringing food, drink, and old-fashioned festival games together for a new community event, "Sannomiya Yokocho Grown-Ups' Summer Festival 2026," set for Sunday, September 6.

A Yokocho That Joins In

Rather than simply a place to eat and drink, the festival is built around the idea of a "yokocho culture where people naturally connect with each other." At a time when smartphones and social media are making face-to-face contact rarer, organizers hope that toasts, games, and conversation can create a real space in Sannomiya for new encounters and connections.

The event also marks the first large-scale event held jointly by all seven shops of Sannomiya Yokocho. Organizers are aiming for 1,000 visitors and hope the event will bring more nighttime energy to Sannomiya and support the area's revitalization.

Making Use of the Sanraku Area Under the Elevated Tracks

The festival takes place in the Sanraku area, on the second floor beneath the elevated railway tracks. The area has recently hosted popular events — including an antiques-market festival and a Kobe-area sightseeing festival — that together drew around 1,000 visitors this year. Organizers hope for a day of energy across Sannomiya as a whole, with Sannomiya Yokocho aiming for a synergy effect that boosts foot traffic and revitalizes the area.

Admission is free, and anyone is welcome to take part. Food stalls will serve original Yokocho dishes.

No losers — the "senbon-biki" string-pull lottery

A senbon-biki lottery offering coupons usable at Sannomiya Yokocho shops, along with old-fashioned candy, will be held. It's a nostalgic festival-stall activity every visitor can take part in.

Katanuki candy-carving and chinchiro dice challenge

Order a drink for a chance to play. Succeed, and the drink is free. Fail, and you still get to toast with a mega-size drink. It's a Yokocho-style game where conversation naturally follows.

Surprise "half-price drink time"

During the event, when a certain piece of music suddenly plays, half-price drink time begins. It's a surprise that brings the whole venue together as one.

A toast with everyone!

At one point during the event, staff and visitors alike will raise a toast together at the same moment. Attendees are asked to photograph or film the moment and post it on social media with the hashtag "#三宮横丁." It's a participatory moment where visitors help build the event themselves.

Crown-cap challenge

Limited to those who order a Coca-Cola product: flick the bottle's crown cap, and if it lands on a winning mark, you'll receive a Coca-Cola item as a gift.

Wristbands that show "I'd like to connect"

New to this event, color-coded communication wristbands let visitors choose a color on arrival to signal whether they're open to being approached. It makes the kind of natural conversation Sannomiya Yokocho is known for easy to start.
