32nd Hydrangea Festival and International Exchange Event Returns to Nakahara Park in Sayama City on June 14

The 32nd Ajisai Matsuri (Hydrangea Festival) and 35th International Exchange Gathering is set to take place at Nakahara Park — also known as Ajisai Park — in Sayama City, Saitama Prefecture, on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

The event runs from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and offers visitors a chance to enjoy the colorful hydrangea blooms alongside a variety of community attractions. The program includes taiko drumming, traditional dance, and musical performances, as well as food stalls serving yakitori, ajisai manju (hydrangea-shaped steamed buns), and Indian-Nepali curry. Families can also look forward to a mini steam locomotive ride and a fun corner run by a local nursery.

Nakahara Park Hydrangea Season

Hydrangeas at Nakahara Park typically bloom from early to late June. Note that due to late frost in 2026, fewer flower buds are expected this year compared to previous seasons (as observed on June 4, 2026).

The hydrangeas are maintained year-round by local volunteers from the "Shin-Sayama Ajisai Support Team," who carry out pruning, fertilizing, and cleanup work throughout the year to keep each plant in good condition.

Dedicated Volunteer Care

The park's hydrangeas are lovingly tended by the community volunteer group "Shin-Sayama Ajisai Support Team," whose members devote time throughout the year to pruning, fertilizing, and maintaining the surrounding area — caring for every individual plant.
