Vixen Co., Ltd., an optical equipment maker headquartered in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture, is supporting "Catch the moon!! in Shibuya Space School," a stargazing event taking place at SHIBUYA SKY on August 21 (Fri) and 22 (Sat), 2026.
Shibuya Scramble Square, directly connected to Shibuya Station, holds a monthly stargazing event at SHIBUYA SKY, the closest point to the sky in Shibuya. Using telescopes set up in the rooftop observation space "SKY STAGE," visitors can enjoy stargazing together with commentary from star specialists, taking in the view of Tokyo spreading out below from 229 meters above Shibuya alongside the quiet celestial phenomena unfolding above.
This time's event is a collaboration with the manga "Space Brothers" and is designed for children, held as "Shibuya Space School." Participation is limited to parent-and-child pairs (one adult and one child).
"Space Brothers," serialized in Kodansha's "Morning" magazine, with its final chapter announced this past June, is a hugely popular manga by Chuya Koyama. It follows brothers Mutta and Hibito Nanba, who promised each other as children that they would become astronauts together. In 2025, Hibito is about to depart for the moon as the first Japanese person to land there, while Mutta — who has just lost his job — starts working toward space again to keep the promise the two made as children.
At this event, participants get to reach for the "moon" with their own hands — the moon being the "starting point of the dream" that first set the brothers on their path to space and set the whole story in motion.
Building an Original Space Brothers Telescope and the Star Catch Contest
The event is made up of two parts: an "indoor lesson" in a multipurpose room and "stargazing" on the rooftop.
Build Your Own One-of-a-Kind Telescope
In the indoor portion, children first learn the basics of using a telescope and facts about the moon, then take part in a workshop where they assemble their own "handmade telescope." Kids can freely decorate the tube with special Space Brothers stickers and seals, and get to take home the one-of-a-kind telescope they build.
While waiting their turn for the Star Catch Contest, participants can use the telescope they just finished making to freely stargaze on the rooftop.
The Star Catch Contest, 229 Meters Above Shibuya
After building the telescopes, participants move up to the rooftop observation space "SKY STAGE" for the Star Catch Contest. In the contest, participants operate a moon-viewing telescope called "MiruMOON" themselves, competing on how quickly and accurately they can bring a designated celestial object into view. Results are announced after the contest, with prizes awarded based on performance.

Participation Requirement: Limited to a parent/guardian and child pair (one adult and one child)
*Up to one additional person may join per pair. Additional participants in junior high school or older must purchase an admission ticket online in advance; elementary school-age additional participants may purchase at the counter on the day.
Target Participants: Pairs of a 4th- to 6th-grade elementary school child and a parent/guardian
*Children in 1st through 3rd grade may also participate, though the content is geared toward older elementary school students.
Capacity: 15 pairs (30 people) per day

6:00 PM to 6:15 PM: Gather in front of the 14th-floor ticket counter
6:30 PM: Event begins (rules, telescope usage explanation, etc.)
6:50 PM: Handmade telescope workshop
7:20 PM: Star Catch Contest at the rooftop observation space "SKY STAGE"
8:40 PM: Results announcement, survey
9:00 PM: Special program ends (dismissal)
