Shikoku Aquarium (Utazu-cho, Ayauta-gun, Kagawa Prefecture) is now accepting reservations for a nighttime full-charter plan exclusively for school groups. The trial program runs for approximately one year starting April 1, 2026.
The plan allows schools to rent out the entire aquarium after regular closing hours, creating a dedicated learning environment for observing and studying marine life. The initiative was introduced in response to requests from school groups for quieter observation settings and greater flexibility in using the venue.
With the growing emphasis on inquiry-based and experiential learning in schools in recent years, the aquarium had been hearing feedback such as "wanting a calm environment to observe carefully" and "wanting to use the whole venue for the entire school group." During chartered sessions, students can observe marine creature behavior and exhibit explanations at their own pace without other visitors present. Optional programs can also be added, including a large tank feeding experience and a special dolphin program, tailored to the group's learning objectives.
Following the trial period, the aquarium intends to assess school needs and consider a full-scale rollout for fiscal year 2027 and beyond.
School Group Exclusive Nighttime Charter Plan Details
Trial Period: April 1, 2026 (Wednesday) – approximately one year
Eligible Institutions: Kindergartens, elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools, and other institutions under Article 1 of the School Education Act, as well as nurseries under the Child Welfare Act
Base Fee: ¥330,000 (tax included) – up to 150 participants, up to 2 hours
Additional fees apply for extended hours or groups exceeding 150 participants.
Optional Programs:
- Large tank feeding experience: ¥110,000 (tax included)
- Dolphin play time: ¥110,000 (tax included)
