Shikoku Aquarium in Utazu, Kagawa Prefecture is currently hosting "Rainy Season Singing Frogs" (梅雨に鳴くカエル展), a special exhibition spotlighting frogs that become active during the rainy season. The exhibition runs from May 29 (Fri) to July 12 (Sun), 2026.

Seven Frog Species from Kagawa on Display
The exhibition features seven species of frogs that can be found in Kagawa Prefecture and are known for calling during the rainy season.

From left: Japanese tree frog (ニホンアマガエル), Japanese brown frog (ツチガエル), and Tokyo daruma pond frog (トノサマガエル)
The exhibition area includes interactive buttons that play each frog's call, allowing visitors to listen to and compare the sounds while learning about the differences and ecology of each species.
A Rare Blue Japanese Tree Frog
From June 5 (Fri), a blue Japanese tree frog joined the exhibition. The individual was discovered in mid-May in Donarichō, Awa City, Tokushima Prefecture, and donated to the aquarium by the person who found it.

Blue Japanese tree frog
The blue coloration is thought to be caused by an absence or extreme concentration of yellow pigment cells in the skin. In the wild, the blue color makes the frog more visible to predators, making survival difficult — which is why such individuals are considered extremely rare.
