About Gunma SAKE TSUGU

Gunma SAKE TSUGU

Wanting more people to discover the appeal of Gunma's local sake and its breweries, representative Daisuke Shimizu left his 15-year career at the Gunma Prefectural Government and launched "Gunma SAKE TSUGU" on October 1, 2019 — Japan Sake Day — under the guiding themes of "passing on the spirit of the breweries," "carrying forward tradition," "connecting people and culture," and "pouring sake." The group runs information campaigns and organizes events centered on that mission.

Suntory Collaboration — Official Maebashi Biennale Drinks

Throughout the festival, Shiroiya Hotel is serving original drinks made with Suntory products at both The Restaurant and The Lounge.

At The Restaurant, the premium Japanese craft gin "ROKU" is served as an alcohol pairing alongside the Joshu cuisine of head chef Hiro Katayama — a glass that layers a clear tomato consomme over ROKU's complex aromas, balancing a long, lingering fragrance with the savory sweetness of tomato.

At The Lounge, a drink supervisor from Suntory's gourmet development team worked with the Biennale office to create "Mebuku. Highball," inspired by Maebashi.

"Mebuku. Highball"

A refreshing, mojito-style highball scented with honey and mint, inspired by Maebashi's city vision and the festival's theme, "Mebuku.". The idea draws on the city's beekeeping and honey production in its urban core. Made with Suntory's "Jim Beam" whiskey, it balances bourbon's gentle sweetness with mellow acacia honey and the cool lift of mint and soda.

About Shiroiya Hotel

ART DESTINATION — a hotel like a museum, full of inspiration for the senses

Shiroiya Hotel

After 300 years as a long-established inn in Maebashi, Gunma, the property was reborn in December 2020 as Shiroiya Hotel, redesigned by architect Sou Fujimoto to help revitalize the city center. The renovation of the once-derelict building left the concrete atrium exposed, now home to a dreamlike light installation by Leandro Erlich. Guest rooms are each decorated with different works of art, and throughout the hotel guests can enjoy a wide range of contemporary art and design set within lush greenery. The grounds also include a restaurant, cafe lounge, patisserie, bakery, tea room, and three types of private saunas. The main dining room, Shiroiya The Restaurant, has appeared in the Gault et Millau restaurant guide for five consecutive years. With a wealth of activities both on-site and around the hotel, a stay here promises to be full of inspiration.
