SNOW MIKU & Rabbit Yukine Named Official Ambassadors for Hokkaido's "Hand-Sign Stop Movement"

SNOW MIKU and Rabbit Yukine, the characters Crypton Future Media Inc. (headquartered in Sapporo, Hokkaido) uses to support Hokkaido, have been appointed official ambassadors for the "Hand-Sign Stop Movement."

Both characters appeared at the autumn National Traffic Safety Campaign's "2026 Hokkaido Residents' Traffic Safety Rally," held in the front garden of the Hokkaido Government's Red Brick Building on September 18, 2026 (Friday). The event introduced their new roles as ambassadors and unveiled newly created reflector goods (sold by the Hokkaido Traffic Safety Association).

What Is the "Hand-Sign Stop Movement"?

Hokkaido is running the "Hand-Sign Stop Movement" to help prevent traffic accidents involving pedestrians. At crosswalks without traffic signals, the initiative encourages pedestrians to signal their intent to cross with a hand gesture, and encourages drivers to stay mindful that pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks. Through this mutual consideration between pedestrians and drivers, the movement aims to create safer, more secure crosswalks.

Going forward, SNOW MIKU and Rabbit Yukine will support activities to help spread awareness of this movement to more people.

New Poster and Reflector Goods Released

To mark SNOW MIKU and Rabbit Yukine's appointment as official ambassadors for the "Hand-Sign Stop Movement," a new poster has been created. The poster, illustrated by たらんぼマン, shows both characters firmly raising their hands to demonstrate the hand signal.

Reflector goods featuring official illustrations of both characters by illustrator KEI will also go on sale as an item to help protect against traffic accidents. Called "Kirari SNOW MIKU & Yukine Reflector," the item catches light from sources such as car headlights and reflects it back, alerting drivers to the wearer's presence. Wearable on everyday belongings, the reflectors offer a way for SNOW MIKU and Rabbit Yukine to help keep people safe.

About SNOW MIKU

SNOW MIKU is a character developed by Crypton Future Media Inc. to support Hokkaido. She was born after an all-white snow sculpture of Hatsune Miku was created for the 2010 Sapporo Snow Festival. She now serves as an ambassador for various initiatives that promote Hokkaido, collaborating with companies and other characters to expand her supporting activities in many directions. SNOW MIKU also headlines an annual festival held in Hokkaido called "SNOW MIKU," for which her festival costume design is chosen each year through public submissions based on a set theme; the costume theme for 2027 is「ひみつの☆めたもる」. She has also served as a Sapporo tourism ambassador since September 2024.

Rabbit Yukine, created as SNOW MIKU's pet character, is also active as a character supporting Hokkaido. Alongside SNOW MIKU, Rabbit Yukine serves as a Sapporo tourism ambassador and independently supports initiatives that promote Hokkaido.
