The Macallan Sherry Oak 12 Year: A New Era

New Package Design by Artist David Carson Makes Japan Debut
The highlight of this event is the newly redesigned Sherry Oak 12 Year, making its first appearance in Japan. This iconic product of The Macallan unveils its new packaging for the first time in the country.
The design was created by David Carson, a leading American graphic designer. Known for his innovative typography-based approach that breaks conventional boundaries, his artistic style perfectly aligns with The Macallan's progressive spirit, resulting in this collaboration.
The deep colors created by sherry cask maturation, the passage of time during long aging, and the philosophy of whisky-making woven by nature and human hands—all are expressed through design that is abstract yet intuitively appealing. Rooted in tradition while embracing contemporary sensibility, this new package symbolizes The Macallan's present and future.

The Macallan Brand's Pinnacle: The Red Collection

A Precious Collection Unveiled to the Public in Japan for the First Time
This pop-up will display the Red Collection from The Macallan, positioned at the brand's pinnacle, featuring 40, 50, 60, 71, and 78-year expressions. This precious collection makes its first public appearance in Japan.
The Red Collection is an essential part of The Macallan's history, following the tradition from founder Alexander Reid's era of marking exceptionally high-quality casks with a "red mark." Each expression is bottled from only the finest casks selected by aging year, representing the pinnacle of quality. Each bottle, having quietly aged for decades, is a unique existence known as "The Macallan Red." These bottles are not merely whisky but embody time, memory, and The Macallan's history itself.
This is an extremely valuable opportunity to view this collection, which represents the brand's summit and is rarely seen by the public.

Experience Premium Tasting at "La Cave"
The Macallan fair will also be held simultaneously at La Cave (Japanese and Western Spirits/Wine) on the third basement floor of Ginza Mitsukoshi's main building. At the attached tasting corner, visitors can sample all The Macallan products available at this pop-up store.

About New Package Artist David Carson
David Carson is a leading American graphic designer. Having gained worldwide attention in the 1990s, he has greatly expanded the expressive realm of graphic design through bold layouts and typography that defy conventional rules.
What made him famous was his art direction for the American culture magazine "Ray Gun." His experimental expressions that deliberately disrupted text placement and page composition presented a new value: "design is not to be read, but to be felt," and continues to influence many creators today.
His activities extend beyond editorial design to advertising, branding, and package design, collaborating with world-leading brands including Nike, Pepsi, Ray-Ban, and BMW.
For The Macallan collaboration visuals, motifs include the colors and layering of time brought by sherry cask maturation, the distillery and its surrounding natural environment, and The Macallan's foundational symbol <6 Pillars> representing the pillars of the brand. He translated The Macallan's "timeless value" into contemporary visuals, born as a symbolic presence connecting the tradition and innovation the brand has pursued.
About The Macallan

The Macallan is a globally renowned whisky brand known for its exceptional single malt whisky. In 1824, founder Alexander Reid began distilling the first whisky in small stills at Speyside, Scotland, starting this unparalleled single malt Scotch whisky tradition. Even after 200 years, commitment to quality and craftsmanship remains The Macallan's hallmark. Through special oak casks seasoned with sherry, each whisky possesses natural color, exceptional quality, and distinctive character. The Macallan's distillery sits on a beautiful 485-acre estate inspired by Scotland's ancient hills, designed by internationally acclaimed architects. The past 200 years are merely a prelude to what's to come. A journey through time. This is the message conveyed by The Macallan's "200 Years Young" this year.
