Yamaguchi Prefecture Fair "Week of Blessings" at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store

Yamaguchi Prefecture brings its delicious appeal to the heart of Tokyo!

Yamaguchi Prefecture is drawing worldwide attention, from the New York Times and other international media, thanks to attractions like the Mine Akiyoshi-dai Geopark (expected to receive UNESCO World Heritage Geopark certification) and the National Treasure Rurikoji Five-Story Pagoda, which recently underwent its first complete cypress bark roof renovation in 70 years.

This event brings together a carefully selected collection of Yamaguchi Prefecture's finest gourmet products to Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store.

Don't miss this opportunity to experience the authentic flavors of Yamaguchi.

Featured Products

Kawara Soba

Kawara Soba

Born in Shimonoseki City, this elegant tea soba is served with beef, kinshi tamago (shredded egg), nori seaweed, grated momiji oroshi (spicy daikon), lemon, and dipping sauce. Kawara Soba has become a representative local gourmet dish of Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Available for both retail purchase and eat-in service.

Choshu Chicken

Choshu Chicken

Raised in the serene natural environment near Nagato City, surrounded by mountains and sea, Choshu Chicken is fed a special blend of five herbs and raised using the "hiragai" (free-range) method to minimize stress. This produces exceptionally flavorful chicken.

The event features karaage (fried chicken) and Sanzoku-yaki (bandit-style grilled chicken).

Fugu (Pufferfish)

Fugu

Many people associate Yamaguchi Prefecture with fugu. In Shimonoseki City, fugu is called "fuku" to invoke good fortune and happiness. While Shimonoseki has a strong association with fugu, the fish is also abundantly harvested in Hagi City and Shunan City.

The event offers fuku sashimi, fuku chiri (hot pot), fuku karaage (fried fugu), and the special "Sachiawase Fuku Bento" (Happiness Fugu Bento), normally available exclusively at JR Tokuyama Station.

Uiro (Sticky Rice Cake)

Uiro

Unlike Nagoya and Odawara uiro made with rice flour, Yamaguchi's uiro uses bracken starch, giving it a texture similar to warabi mochi and a smooth, easy-to-eat consistency like mizu yokan (jellied sweet bean paste).

The event features freshly steamed uiro and nama uiro (fresh uiro) prepared right before customers' eyes.

In addition to the featured items above, the event showcases other Yamaguchi delicacies including:

  • Nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) and amadai (tilefish) caught in Yamaguchi waters, served as dried fish
  • Kalbi Don (short rib rice bowl) made with prefectural beef
  • Yamaguchi Niku-Zanmai Bento (Yamaguchi Meat Feast Bento) featuring prefectural beef, pork, and chicken
  • Hagi Mutsumi Pork Gyoza
  • Hagi Kama Roll
  • Chigiri-ten (torn tempura)
  • Sweets including Ganne Kuriemon chestnuts, Coffee Shop Cheesecake, and Brandy Cake

Popular shops from across the prefecture bring delicious local products to welcome visitors.
