The Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in Ikebukuro holds monthly "Theatre Tours" that let visitors discover and experience the many charms of the venue. For April and May 2026, the tours will offer a special look at the halls during TACT FESTIVAL 2026 rehearsal setups, as well as a visit to the concert hall seating area before a performance.
April & May 2026 Tour Overview
After introducing the artworks displayed throughout the building and the various halls, participants get to enter the halls and see the inside. Led by uniquely individual tour guides, each approximately 60-minute tour is packed with the theatre's many attractions. On April 28 and May 1, tours will visit halls being prepared for TACT FESTIVAL 2026 performances, with commentary from stage technical staff explaining the hall's features and setup work. On May 29 and 31, after viewing the building's architecture and artworks, participants will enter the concert hall set up with orchestra seating ahead of a performance, and learn about the hall's mechanisms and acoustics while looking at the stage.
TACT FESTIVAL is a festival that everyone from children to adults can enjoy, featuring a wide variety of programs including concerts, dance, rakugo (traditional comic storytelling), and sumo.

About Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre

Located in front of Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre (also known as "Geigeki") is a multi-purpose arts and cultural facility featuring four specialized halls for music, theatre, and dance, along with exhibition spaces. It houses a music-dedicated concert hall with one of the world's largest pipe organs, a playhouse for theatre and dance performances, and two smaller halls. As a creative and outreach-type theatre, it creates and presents performing arts productions. Studio and gallery exhibitions, lectures, and workshops are also actively held throughout the year.
The Appeal of the Theatre Tour

Monthly guided "Theatre Tours" take visitors through the halls of Geigeki. Guides share inside knowledge about the theatre's history and the features of each hall, including behind-the-scenes stories known only to theatre staff. While the tour route changes each time depending on hall availability, every session covers both the architectural and stage machinery aspects of the venue, as well as the productions and concerts being performed, and includes a walk around the artworks displayed in various spots throughout the building.
Guided by Tour Guides
The guides are passionate theatre enthusiasts who share Geigeki's charms using their individual areas of expertise and personalities. Participants walk through the building together, enter the empty auditorium to understand how the hall works, and hear firsthand accounts from people involved in productions. Guides are there to help visitors discover new aspects of the theatre and feel a closer connection to it — feel free to ask questions along the way.
