Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre holds monthly "Theater Tours" to help visitors discover and experience the venue's various attractions.

In March 2026, the theater will offer a special edition tour exploring Bon Cri Fes venues and the standard tour entering the Concert Hall auditorium before performances.

Whether you want to explore the bustling theater during the festival or experience the quiet Concert Hall before a performance, both options provide enriching experiences. These tours are also recommended for first-time visitors to the theater.

About Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre

Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre exterior

Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre (commonly known as Geigeki) is located in front of Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo. This comprehensive arts and culture facility features four specialized halls for music, theater, and dance performances, along with exhibition spaces. The venue includes a concert hall with one of the world's largest pipe organs dedicated to music, a playhouse for theater and dance performances, and two smaller halls. As a creative theater, it produces and presents performing arts works. Activities such as exhibitions, lectures, and workshops at the atelier and gallery are also actively held.

The Appeal of Theater Tours

Inside the theater during a tour

Monthly "Theater Tours" guided by knowledgeable staff are conducted to explore the halls. The tours introduce the theater's history and hall characteristics, including behind-the-scenes stories known only to theater staff. While tour routes change each time depending on hall usage, each tour touches on both the hardware aspects such as architecture and stage mechanisms, and the software aspects including performances and concerts being presented, as well as viewing artworks placed throughout the interior and exterior, making for a comprehensive course.

Tour Guide Presentations

Tour guide explaining to visitors

The tours are guided by passionate theater enthusiasts. Each guide uses their specialized knowledge and personality to convey Geigeki's appeal. Walking together through the facility, entering audience-free auditoriums to understand hall mechanisms, and hearing live voices from those involved in creation – the guides help visitors discover new attractions of the theater and feel a closer connection to it. When participating, feel free to ask questions about anything that interests you.
