Weather

Temperatures in Tokyo in May are mild and comfortable during the daytime and can feel a bit chilly at night. Sanja Festival（Sanja Matsuri ）

The Sanja Festival held at Asakusa Shrine is one of the most popular festivals in Japan, attracting approximately 1.8 million people. It is said to be the most lively festival of the year in Asakusa, a downtown area that still retains an Edo-style atmosphere. The festival is held on the third Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of May every year.

The highlight of the Sanja Festival held at Asakusa Shrine is the parade of portable shrines on the second and third days of the festival. 100 portable shrines are brought out from the towns around Asakusa Shrine on the second day and head for Asakusa Shrine. 3 large portable shrines depart from Asakusa Shrine on the third day and go around each town.

Kachiya Festival

Kachiya Festival is an annual festival held on May 5 at Katori-jinja Shrine in Kameido. A parade of warriors in a Japanese armor and helmet, battle surcoat (formal kimono), and kamishimo (ceremonial samurai costume) parades about 2 km.

Roppongi Art Night

Roppongi Art Night is a one-night art festival that has been held in the town of Roppongi since 2009. A wide variety of contemporary art, design, music, video, and performance works are scattered throughout the town, creating an extraordinary experience.

The season is in full swing! Spring Flower Spots

May is the height of spring and the season of flowers. There are many spots in Tokyo where you can enjoy beautiful flower scenery, and events are held according to the season.

Showa Kinen Park “Flower Festival”

The Flower Festival at the Showa Kinen Park is usually held from late March to late May. Cherry blossoms, tulips, Shirley poppys, and other flowers come into bloom in sequence, and visitors can enjoy a relay of spring flowers.

In May, the bouquet garden, nemophila and poppies are at their best. Picking experiences may also be offered.

Jindai Botanical Gardens “Spring Rose Festa”

The Jindai Botanical Gardens in Chofu City is famous for its rose garden, where a rose festival is held in conjunction with the spring rose blooming season. The rose garden, which was awarded the World Federation of Rose Societies’ Outstanding Garden Award, has approximately 400 varieties and 5,200 rose plants, and visitors can see some of the most precious rose varieties. Kyu-Furukawa Gardens “Spring Rose Festival”

The Kyu-Furukawa Gardens is an attractive harmony of a Western-style garden and a Japanese garden. About 200 roses of about 100 varieties are in full bloom. The “Spring Rose Festival” is held in conjunction with the best time to see the spring roses, and includes a “Spring Rose Concert” and a “Spring Rose Popularity Contest”.
