About "Tove and the Moomins: In Search of the Most Treasured"
2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the publication of the Moomin novels. In commemoration, a special exhibition — "Tove and the Moomins: In Search of the Most Treasured" — will be held at Kobe City Museum in autumn 2026, in cooperation with the Helsinki Art Museum (HAM) in Finland.
The exhibition focuses on Tove Jansson (1914–2001), the multi-talented artist behind the Moomin series, who worked across painting, political cartoons, comics, picture books, and novels. Around 300 works will be on display, including early oil paintings, wartime cartoons from before and after World War II, original illustrations and sketches from the Moomin novels and comics, and personal belongings. The exhibition also explores how Jansson's own life shaped the Moomin series.
