About Misasa Onsen
Over 850 Years of History!
Ancient healing waters with the legend of the white wolf
Soak in it, drink it, breathe it in!
Misasa Onsen is one of the world's leading radioactive hot springs. The healing waters of Misasa, with their high radon concentration, are believed to restore vitality after three mornings (which is what "Misasa" means). The nostalgic atmosphere of this traditional hot spring town soothes the soul.

The Legend of Misasa Onsen
Over 850 years ago during the Heian period, a samurai named Okubo Samanosuke, a retainer of Minamoto no Yoshitomo, encountered an old white wolf. Though he drew his bow to shoot, he thought better of it and let the wolf go. That night, Myoken Daibosatsu appeared in Samanosuke's dream and, in gratitude for saving the white wolf, revealed the location of a hot spring. Since then, the healing waters have been said to cure villagers' ailments.
