Chopsticks Studio Shibuya Opens Near Shibuya Station With Group Chopstick-Making Workshops for Up to 44

A new chopstick-making experience studio has opened in Shibuya, Tokyo. Chopsticks Studio Shibuya opened on Saturday, August 1, 2026, run by Japan Guide Star, a brand operated by Contents Like LLC that offers guided tours for visitors to Japan. Alongside the opening, the studio has also strengthened its system for receiving groups from travel agencies and MICE organizers.

Located about a five-minute walk from Shibuya Station, the studio offers an in-depth workshop centered on the traditional Japanese craft of chopstick-making.

Beyond a school trip, company training session, or group tour that would otherwise be limited to sightseeing, the studio is positioned as a hands-on Japanese cultural experience that goes further than simply "looking."

Background

In recent years, demand among inbound group tours and MICE visitors has been shifting from sightseeing-focused itineraries toward hands-on experiences. Educational trips and workplace outings, too, are increasingly expected to build understanding of themes such as inquiry-based learning and the SDGs, rather than stopping at conventional sightseeing.

At the studio, visitors deepen their understanding of Japanese culture and craftsmanship by making chopsticks -- an object familiar to everyday life in Japan -- with their own hands. Beyond the act of making the chopsticks, the program also covers the cultural ties between Japanese people and chopsticks and the spirit behind the craftsmanship, aiming for a Japanese cultural experience that does not end once the item is finished.

To bring this experience of touching Japanese culture and learning the spirit of sustainable craftsmanship to more visitors, the studio has built out a group reception system for school trips, corporate training, and inbound group tours and MICE.

Five Reasons the Studio Works Well for Group Tours

  1. A Prime Shibuya Location Finishing in About an Hour, Making Good Use of Gaps in an Itinerary

The studio is about a five-minute walk from Shibuya Station, close to the Shibuya Scramble Crossing and other nearby spots, so a session fits easily around a walk through the area, lunch, or a stop before or after a visit to another destination.

  2. Ten Sessions a Day on a Flexible Schedule, Easy to Build Into a Group Tour's Itinerary

Ten one-hour sessions run each day between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, so the studio fits into tightly packed group tour schedules. It can also serve as a rainy-day alternative or as a backup for last-minute schedule changes.

  3. The Satisfaction of Taking Home a "One-of-a-Kind Traditional Craft Item"

Under the guidance of local staff (who speak English and Japanese), guests shape their own chopsticks from high-quality wood. Gift wrapping is available, so the chopsticks can be used for meals during the rest of a stay in Japan and continue to be used after returning home -- a practical souvenir found nowhere else.

  4. Groups of Up to 44 Received at Once, Without Splitting the Group

Large groups, such as inbound educational tours or corporate incentive trips, can all take part in the full workshop together at the same time, without needing to be divided into smaller groups.

  5. In-Depth Cultural Insight, Delivered in English

Rather than simple craftwork, the session includes an in-depth explanation delivered in English, covering the history of chopsticks, the types of wood used, and the Japanese spirit of hospitality.
